Hi I'm Daniel Burton

I own a bike shop. I am the first person to bike from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

On December 2, 2013 I started on the ice shelf at Hercules Inlet off the coast of Antarctica and biked 750 miles over 51 days to the South Pole. During the expedition I had to battle -30F temperatures, strong headwinds, whiteout conditions, and dangerous crevasses. I arrived at the South Pole on January 21, 2014, making me the first person to bike to the South Pole. I worked as a computer programmer for WordPerfect and Novell for 23 years. In 2007 years ago I decided to give up my career as a programmer and dedicate my life to helping people live a healthy, active lifestyle. I opened a bike store, Epic Biking, so that I could share my joy of riding a bike. I want to use my expedition to the South Pole to continue my efforts to promote a health lifestyle. I enjoy distance bike riding. I have finished LoToJa 6 times. At 206 miles, LoToJa is the longest one-day USAC sanctioned bicycle race in the USA. I have also finished the Brian Head Epic 100 mountain bike race twice. At 100 miles, over 12,000 feet of climbing and maximum elevation of over 11,500 feet, the Brian Head Epic 100 was one of America's toughest mountain bike races. I have also completed multiple day expeditions across Wyoming, from Colorado to Utah on the Kokopelli trail, and the White Rim trail in Canyonlands.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, but like everyone else I had to decide for myself if the Gospel was true. Through study and prayer I have developed my conviction that the teachings of the Church are true and that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that through Him we can return to live with our Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

I try and live the gospel in my everyday life, it is part of who I am. I am far from perfect, but I try and follow the example of Jesus Christ.
