Hi I'm Tom

I'm a Mormon. I now live in the Southeast. Earlier I lived 7 years in Germany and Spain, and then more than 5 years in Brazil.

About Me

I am retired from public service; however, I remain employed because I enjoy it. I was in the USAF for a short time, a police officer in two large cities for ten years, and I have since taught at colleges and in secondary schools. I hold three graduate degrees. My wife and true soul mate of over 40 years, is also a teacher, and she is an accomplished musican. We both enjoy travel and reading. We have a son, daughter, and six grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

The central motivation in my life is Jesus Christ. He has given me peace, confidence, love, joy, and happiness. My relationship and commitment to Christ has been magnified by my association with the church and its teachings. This is the only true reason I am a member of this church.

How I live my faith

I live my commitment to Christ by trying to be nice. I have held many administrative positions in the church, including active participation in the Boy Scouts and other youth groups. My most enjoyable service has been in providing service to others, being prepared to offer a helping hand. Mostly I have done well. I have also served the church overseas, even leaving my employment. It was a great blessing!

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Of course Mormons help Mormons, but we also help others in need, who are not Mormons. Locally, Mormons are known for offering immediate and sustained help during hurricanes. I personally have worked on roof restoration and clean up in four major hurricanes. Globally the Mormon church donates millions annually to relieve hunger and illness throughout the world, in particular Africa. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

I believe, and I can testify, that God's word is in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. I read and study them often. We are also blessed to have another witness of Christ and further teachings and insights, which help us daily. Show more Show less
