Hi I'm Bret

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, son, brother, grandson, brother-in-law, cousin, uncle and friend to all. I love the outdoors, and luckily I live in an area with plenty of it. I love to run, bike, hike, play ultimate frisbee, softball, basketball, and most other sports. I love to go jeeping in my jeep, riding my motorcycle, working on cars, and trying to convince my wife that we "need" an old classic truck for me to work on too! I love music. I love to sing, I play a little guitar, and always have to be playing music. I have a record collection. I love the sound of music from the vinyl! I honestly just try to do the best that I can. But I don't always succeed. I lost my job recently partially due to the recession and partially because I wasn't being the best employee that I could and should have been. Its been a blessing though. It was an eye-opener. I have had to recover, re-group and re-plan. My life is going a different direction, I am going back to school and I am going to be a teacher.

Why I am a Mormon

I just want to be the best "Bret" or best self that I can. The Gospel of Jesus Christ as taught by our church shows me the way, because Jesus Christ is the only way! Each day I am getting a little bit better and a little bit closer to what God wants me to be. I know that God lead me here, through my parents. My father was baptized at 18, and has been the best example I could have ever asked for. My mother is awesome! full of faith, optimism and hope that we will all be together with God someday!

How I live my faith

There is a great work to be done on the Earth right now. That is the work of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. This way everyone can know about Him and what he has done for us. I help the elders/missionaries (the guys you see in white shirts and ties on bikes) in whatever they need, rides, food, teaching someone I know, etc. I also get to help prepare baptismal services for those ready to get baptized, I have been very busy! I wouldn't have it any other way.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

That is a great question and a common misconception about the book that i would love to clarify. #1-God, through Holy men, often called prophets who received revelation. #2-more specifically a number of Ancient American Prophets- think of the same time as Jeremiah of the Old Testament #3-Joseph Smith translated the Book into English, it was published 1830. So Joseph Smith, a modern prophet, took ancient scriptures (similar to the Bible in content) and by the power of God translated it into English for all of us to read and benefit from.
