Hi I'm Spencer

I'm a programmer, a linguist, an emphatic book reader, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student studying both Computer Science and Linguistics. I've currently taken time out of that so I might be able to serve as a missionary full-time and share the things I've found to help me, to others. Before serving as a missionary, and when I get done, I spend freely available time working on personal programming and similar projects, reading books and spending time having fun with friends. I've been interested in programming and similar things since I was very young, and eventually decided to try and pursue it as a career. As for books, I read all sorts of good books, to varieties of fiction, to non-fiction of every sort. I'm always seeking to grow my library and my knowledge of all sorts of good things.

Why I am a Mormon

Before I was baptized when I was eight, my father gave me a challenge for the year before that. It was simple, read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it is true, and if I should get baptized. I accepted. Every day for that whole year I read, and read until finally I finished. I then went to the second half of the challenge and prayed to know if this was true and if I should be baptized and join this church. I don't remember any details except that I know that my answer was yes. As I continued to grow up in this church, my faith was tested many times with rocky situations with my family, and when I was an older teenager I began to wonder again if it was true. I hadn't adhered to my witness and answer as a child. The answer to my study and prayer this time was similar, but different at the same time. It was God telling me, "I already told you this before. This is the right path, stay strong". These two witnesses, as well as daily spiritual experiences strengthen my faith, help me get through the small and big challenges in my personal life and witness to me that this is the true church on earth once more.

How I live my faith

Currently I serve as a full-time missionary sharing the gospel that has blessed my life, with others. As I have served my brothers and sisters both spiritually and physically, it has helped my love of others increase, fueling a greater desire to be more like Jesus Christ in every way.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Spencer
We believe that the only thing that can save is the grace given to us by the suffering Jesus Christ has done for us. However, this grace is made manifest by the exercising of our faith, our willingness to act without knowing how things will be in the end, but putting trust in the will of God. When we do this, our ability to do and be good is magnified by the grace of God, providing us salvation. Show more Show less
