Hi I'm David

I'm an urban planner. I try to help communities become more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Dad and husband. I love bicycling and am a bicycle and pedestrian planner for cities.

Why I am a Mormon

...because it answers life's most important questions, logically and pragmatically. It helps me be more accountable before God, and brings me happiness when I live by its teachings.

How I live my faith

I work with the 12 and 13 year old boys in our congregation. I try to talk about faith in every day terms with them, and try to make it practical and livable. I believe that being a good person, treating people kindly, and being warm and compassionate is a great way to outwardly live your faith. I also don't hide the fact that I do things that specifically relate to my mormonism, like going to church, having my children baptised, participating in service, etc.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

We believe in a spiritual and temporal law of finance, called "the law of tithing." Mormons give back 10% of their income back to the church. This reminds us that all we have comes from our Heavenly Father. In return, we believe that Heavenly Father will "open the windows of heaven" (Mal. 3:10) and take care of our temporal needs. I take great pleasure in paying my tithing, because I firmly believe that by doing so I'm allowing God to provide for me and my family. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

No it does not. Our church occasionally takes stances on issues with political relevance, but we do not endorse political parties. Many people often correlate Mormons with more traditional, conservative or Republican thought - but doing so is taking a very narrow subsection at a worldwide church. Within our church we have members who cover nearly every party and political ideology. Our first prophet, Joseph Smith is famous for saying "I teach correct principles and let the people govern themselves." This leaves the door open for wide possibilities of political motivation and fervor. Show more Show less
