Hi I'm Doug

I'm a Mormon. I was born in Utah and raised in Salt Lake City.

About Me

Farming is where I grew up and learned to work. As a young man, I served a 2 1/2 year proselyting mission for the Mormon Church in Brazil where I learned to speak Portugese. The first half of my working life was spent as a Flight Instructor and corporate pilot. The second half was as a business owner in the janitorial and restoration business. I am now retired. My wife Karen and I are the parents of 9 children. All are married except one. They are all active church going members of the Mormon Church

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon in part because I was born into the Mormon Church. My Father and Mother were strong stalwart Christians and active members of the Church. The real reason why I am a member still, is that I know without a doubt that God established His church upon the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith and that Thomas S. Monson is His current Prophet on the earth. I know that the Book of Mormon is companion scripture to the Bible with the difference that it was translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith under the hand of God and is therefore true scripture.

How I live my faith

We attend church every Sunday. We attend the general worship service called Sacrament Meeting because we partake of the Sacrament of the Lord's supper as part of that service. We also have a Sunday School. The Mormon Church is run by lay ministry. Therefore most Mormon's who are "active" in the faith, are given a calling by their Bishop. A Bishop is a lay minister and the head of an individual congregation. We have no paid leadership in the Mormon Church. We all have jobs to earn our living and fill all of the individual church positions as we are called to do so by Church Leadership. Everyone in the individual congregations are subject to callings. However they are also subject to release at the disgression of the Bishop. The Bishop is likewise called to his position but is also subject to release by his superiors. Thereby we avoid positioning for authority or advancement. Women have their own organization called Relief Society. This organization offers relief, comfort and support to women in and out of the church. These women preside over their own organization and have their own callings within that organization. It is the largest women's organization in the world.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

For me, I believe the purpose of this life is to come to earth to obtain a body and to gain learning and experiences that will make me more like God so that I can be like him when I return to His presence. The longer I live - the more confident I have become that this is so. Show more Show less

How can I find someone to talk with, in person, about the Mormon religion?

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints live throughout the world. They are willing to share their feelings and beliefs with those who are interested. If you know or meet members of the Church, we invite you to let them know what you have learned on this Internet site and discuss your questions with them. My wife and I have recently served as full time senior missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We know and have worked with many of the younger Elders Sisters who are actively teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are all unpaid volunteers. We have seen that they truly have a real desire to teach those that they meet, how to come closer to God and therefore have much more happiness in this life and an assurance that they can live with God forever. If you do not know a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we invite you to visit with representatives of the Church to learn more about the information you have viewed on this site. Please call 1-888-537-6600 (in US and Canada only) or use the following form to arrange for these representatives to visit your home and share some of Christ’s teachings that answer life’s questions and helped people find greater happiness.
