Hi I'm Scott

"I won't, because I'm Mormon..."

About Me

I am a college student living with my widowed mother and sister. I'm getting my degree in criminal justice and plan on attending law school. I am always staying busy, whether work or play I am never bored. I love to fly-fish rivers for trout, I love a good movie, I am a recovering sports addict who could watch practically any sport and enjoy it. I love spending time with friends and family, but mostly family.

Why I am a Mormon

I first became converted to the Restored Gospel after high school. As a youth and teenager the seeds of faith had been planted, but I never watered them. After high school I was humbled by a few events including my father being diagnosed with cancer and the death of a close friend. Such events lead a person to ask a ton of questions. I found myself on my knees begging God to help me understand what my purpose was. In answer to my prayers I found the strength to read the Book of Mormon. I felt a calming peace and assurance that I wasn't alone as I read the pages. God's love for me became more evident. I began to see the world through a new lens. For the first time I was filled with hope for the future and a sense of purpose. I began living the tenets of the Restored Gospel. This was the watering my seeds of faith needed to grow a testimony of the truth of this great work. I now knew that God had not left us alone and that he did and continues to call Prophets to lead and guide us just as Moses did the children of Israel. I am a Mormon because I choose to follow God's Prophets today and receive His counsel from them so that one day I too may enter into the "Promised Land."

How I live my faith

Serving others in the Church is a great blessing to so many people in various ways. For me I have served in different capacities of the years. I served for 24 months as a missionary in the great state of Georgia, while there we helped with community projects, counseled those in need and helped the soldiers of Fort Benning outside Columbus. Since then I have helped to organize home visiting for families in my community. Whatever my neighbors need we work to find a way to fulfill them. All the while I have been asked to prepare and deliver sermons on the Gospel to the congregation. My favorite way to serve is to teach the Gospel in a classroom setting during Sunday School which is something I do once a month.

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

The simple answer is God, but the reality is that the successor of the current prophet is always known before his time arrives. There are a total of 15 apostles who preside over the church. The First Presidency consists of 3 apostles the 12 remaining making up the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. As an apostle passes away a new one is called in his stead thus creating an order of seniority. When the Prophet passes away the most senior apostle assumes his role as the President of the church and Prophet. Since God chooses when to take each of us from this life, he also decides who will live to become the next prophet. Just as Joshua succeeded Moses our prophets today are selected in the same manner. What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a book of scripture containing the records of God's people and prophets here in the Americas. This record spans from about 600 B.C. to about 400 A.D. The record was later translated by the power of God through the prophet Joseph Smith. This record includes the account of the Resurrected Savior's visit to the Americas. It is one of the many fruits of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ... Show more Show less
