Hi I'm Yvette

I'm interested in social innovation, family media, teaching and learning. Married to a philosopher. Mother of eight. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My family comes from great Mormon pioneer heritage. My parents' ancestors crossed the plains with the saints as they were driven from Nauvoo, Illinois. I am the oldest of 10 children and I moved 26 times before I graduated from high school. I have lived in Utah, Illinois, Texas, California, Indiana, England, and The Netherlands. I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the England Manchester Mission. I love to travel and have visited 14 countries for work and pleasure. I live now in Utah with my husband (whom I met while on a vacation to Holland) and eight children. Learning is a great joy. I have a master's degree in communications. I have worked in most types of media since high school. Early in my career I worked as a newspaper editor, magazine editor, and corporate communications writer. I am very interested in personal learning environments and worked at a church university as an instructional design consultant. Later I worked for a company where I helped acquire more than a billion family history and genealogy records. Right now I work in public relations for a university. I am very much interested in social tools that help orchestrate successful collaboration between people and organizations, and where personal differences can be integrated in social practices that provide individuals with the means for ends-based relationships.

Why I am a Mormon

I feel particularly blessed to be raised by parents who share with me their love of the Lord and His gospel. For as long as I remember, I have felt peace in my heart because I know that I am a child of heavenly parents. I have always wanted to do what is right to please my Heavenly Father. As I have to come to more clearly understand the Plan of Salvation, as taught in the gospel of Jesus Christ, I better cope with adversity, bring focus to my daily life, and experience the true joy that comes through keeping the commandments. My love for the Savior increases each day as I keep myself worthy to have the Holy Spirit as my companion. I'm a Mormon and stay a Mormon because I've found that the gospel of Jesus Christ practiced by Mormons is the clearest, most complete and only way for individuals and families to progress and return to live in the presence of our heavenly parents, inherit His kingdom, and be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. This gospel includes knowledge about the Creation, the Fall, and the Atonement, with all the laws, covenants, and ordinances necessary for exaltation. My hope is that my family will faithfully rely on the merits of Christ and continue with hearts full of charity, ready to receive our Savior and King, Jesus Christ—the Light, Life and Truth of the world—when He returns in all His glory.

How I live my faith

I have five sisters and four brothers who also believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We share in the joys of raising our children and grandchildren in the gospel. I serve as a leader of the young women in our local congregation. Along with other youth leaders, I work with the girls on a program that helps them center their life on Christ and His gospel. As part of that program, we as leaders help them perform service for their families, neighbors and community. Every month I go with one of my neighbors to visit a couple of women in our congregation to see how they are doing and how we can best help them with their families or with personal concerns. I enjoy serving in my congregation! I love reading the scriptures. I am especially thankful for the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. My inner life has been so enriched by the words of Christ contained in the Book of Mormon. Twice a year I listen to the General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The talks during this conference come from our prophet and the apostles, as well as other church authorities who are set apart as special witnesses of Christ. In our home we are working to better observe the Sabbath Day. We pray as a family and try to get along. I strive to stay close to the spirit so I will be guided in how to best interact with my husband and children. I have surrounded myself with wonderful friends who have testimonies of Jesus Christ. Their lives are great examples to me and inspire me to be a better person.
