Hi I'm Landon

I love meeting new people. I want to visit every country in the world. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

My name is Landon. Currently I'm a college student. My major is international studies, and my minor is Chinese. I recently completed a study abroad program in China, which was a wonderful opportunity to familiarize myself with Chinese culture and language. I'm looking to get into NGO management as a career because I feel like this is a great way to help other people while still providing for my family. While I'm not married yet, I certainly hope that opportunity will come my way soon! I enjoy writing because it helps me give voice to my thoughts, opinions, and beliefs about the world around me. I also like to read. I enjoy hiking and "outdoorsy" activities because I feel closer to God when I participate in them, and I also can get away from the rush of modern society and focus on the important things in my life! I also like ultimate frisbee. I grew up in Oregon, which was a great way to find out about many different cultures and beliefs. Oregon is a very multi-cultural place; living there helped me learn to love others around me, even when their opinions were different from mine.

Why I am a Mormon

I was 13 when I first came to know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Jesus Christ's restored church on the earth. Since then, I have tried to live the commandments of Christ, and I have always been very happy that I have! I am a member of the Church because I have prayed and received an answer that it is everything it says it is. When I pray, I can feel God's presence near me. I know He hears and answers my prayers - and the prayers of everybody else! Sometimes the answer has come differently than I expect, but it always comes eventually. So I can truthfully say that revelation, or truth from God, can come to anybody who is willing to listen to God's voice. It has come to me, and I know it! As I have read the Book of Mormon, Bible, and other scriptures God has given for His children to benefit from, I have felt the Holy Ghost come into my heart and tell me they are true. I am so grateful for the scriptures because they help me to understand the path I should take in my life, and I know they have helped me to be a better person and a better disciple of Christ. In short, I am a Mormon because I know the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to be found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and I have come to know God for myself, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer, and He died and was brought back to life so that all of God's children would have the opportunity to return to live with God again. That knowledge has blessed me and has helped me through all the difficult trials of my life, and I know it can help anyone who is willing to find out that it is true!

How I live my faith

In my congregation, I have been blessed to be a teacher for one of the Sunday School classes. I have also had the opportunity to be a financial clerk for the congregation, meaning that I help organize and administer the charitable donations given by congregation members. I am continually amazed by the generosity of others, and it helps me to be more willing to help members of my community by donating as well. I also regularly visit members of the congregation that I have been asked to watch over and take care of, and I have made some of my deepest and closest friends because of it. Serving in my church has given me a deeper desire to follow and emulate Jesus Christ. Outside of church service, I try to watch out for others who may need my help. Maybe somebody around me is struggling emotionally and could use a friend. Maybe somebody I know needs help with a school assignment, or needs advice about a personal situation, or needs somebody to talk to. Or maybe somebody just needs a smile - I try to be that person who is willing to help others!
