Hi I'm Marian

I'm an aunt, a world traveler, sports enthusiast and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was fortunate growing up to be able to live in several different locations across the US as well as Germany and Bolivia. As an adult, I have continued that tradition and have lived or traveled throughout the US and Asia. I love meeting new people and creating new friendships. I enjoy playing and watching sports. I've been trying to learn golf for several years and still consider myself a beginner--but it is a fun challenge. I have six wonderful nephews and two terrific nieces. When I'm not traveling for work I spend time with them. Family is very important to me and I love spending time with my siblings and their families. While work and family keep me pretty busy, I also enjoy reading, going to good movies, spending time with friends, and I'll admit it, watching my favorite TV shows. And, I've been known to read or watch the news a bit.

Why I am a Mormon

I have had many experiences in my life that continue to confirm my belief that being a Mormon is the right thing for me to be. My mother's family joined the church in Denmark and Canada. Their lives and trials inspire me to be the best I can be. When I was 12 a large cancerous mass was discovered in my abdomen. I was not given much chance to survive. My mother refused to lose hope and after many prayers, felt inspired to travel to Utah for treatment. I was blessed to be treated by a surgeon that specialized in my type of cancer. I have been cancer free ever since. It was a miracle. There have been many other experiences, most not as grand, but every bit as faith-affirming. While reading the Book of Mormon, I have asked Heavenly Father if the words were true and felt His answer in my soul, "Yes." I am Mormon because I have had experiences that have told me it is true.

How I live my faith

I have the opportunity to teach the adult Sunday School class every other week. I love it! While a little intimidating, I enjoy the preparation time reading and researching for each lesson. I try to find ways to make the lessons interesting and engaging. I enjoy attending church meetings. It helps to ground me throughout the entire week. As I take the Sacrament each week, the water and bread, it helps me to renew my focus on the Savior and his great sacrifice for me. It is a powerful reminder of what is most important.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Marian
One of my favorite scripture verses comes from the Book of Mormon, the book of 2 Nephi 25:23-- "For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved after all we can do." I love that verse. It tells me that I have some responsibility in trying to do what I can to show Heavenly Father and Jesus how much I love them by doing what they ask. And yet, at the end of the day, it is because of Jesus, my Savior and yours, that I can be saved. It is such a wonderful gift, the gift of salvation. Show more Show less
