Hi I'm Darla

I'm a crazy busy mom that loves my family and a creative challenge. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to try new things. I tell people I am a Jack-of-all-trades, a master of none! My passion is learning new things. One area I really enjoy is being creative- arts and crafts and construction projects. I have been into home improvement even before it became popular, and with a husband who travels extensively for work, I like to do much of the work myself while he is out of town. Once he came home to a re-roofed house, and another time a completely remodeled bathroom! I love sports and being active. I have coached little girls softball for 16 years and love to be a happy, positive influence in their lives. I am always pushing my body too far- who says you have to stop after 40? I love to do back handsprings just to suprise people. My chiroprator says I should stop doing things like that but I just can't resist the way it feels to fly. I help make ends meet by caring for others. I am a certified Personal Care Attendant and a daycare provider for two darling boys. I love to be around little children, so it is the perfect job for me. I consider my daycare children "grandparent training tools." We have three beautiful daughters. The oldest recently got married, and the youngest is entering middle school this year. When we get the youngest into college, I would love to go back to college too! The only problem with that is that I haven't decided "What I want to be when I grow up", there are so many things I want to learn. As soon as I decide...I'll let you know!

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up in the Church, I wouldn't say I knew for sure that I believed it until I was in High School. During a crisis, I prayed and asked if God even knew me. I recieved a strong, warm answer that He did infact know me and that He sent me to my home he for a reason. Since that experience, I have learned to rely on the Lord Jesus Christ in all my trials. I have learned that the Gospel is about loving one another. I have learned what it means to forgive those who hurt us. The knowledge that God loves me and sent me here with a plan for success helps me be a better person. I am grateful for a purpose in life! It guides me in all my roles and makes me want to be a better person tomorrow than I am today.

How I live my faith

The most important way I live my faith is in my own family. I try to keep in my mind the admonition of the Savior, "When you have done it unto the least of these, you have done it unto me." I try to make my actions consistant with my beliefs. I hope that my family can see a reflection of God's love in my eyes as I serve them. In our ward, I serve the youth. I have been asked to work with the 12 year old girls. We believe in teaching leadership, so I encourage the girls to plan and implement their weekly activities. We meet with all the Young Women 12-18 once a month and together with the boys of the same age once a month. We have a great time learning new things, playing games and giving service. Teenagers these days have so much that is degrading that they face every day. It's awesome to be able to plan wholesome activities where they can associate with others that choose to be clean and happy! I also served as Young Women's camp director last year. Camp is a outdoor nature camp for all the girls 12-18. We join with other wards and get to know more girls from our area. What a great opportunity to learn outdoor skills and just have fun together. I love to cook outdoors and I was able to share with the girls some great recipies. So Much Fun! I have coached community girls softball for 16 years and find that it is a natural place to show my love for the youth as I teach them about honoring one's own body and being good team members. Today's youth are fighting an uphill battle in a world filled with evil messages that will lead to lives of heartache. It's great to see them stand tall and make positive choices for their futures!

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The greatest gift I have recieved though the Power of the Holy Ghost is a knowledge that we are indeed children of our Heavenly Father- that he loves us and knows us individually. Through the power of the Holy Ghost, I have literally felt the loving arms of my Father comforting me in my greatest trials. Another blessing is confidence in making decisions. After weighing out a decison and coming to what you believe is the correct choice, If you ask a simple yes and no question, then listen, you will feel an answer. Once you learn to recognize the presence of this power, you can have greater confidence in every decision that you make. Another blessing I have recieved is being able to be led to help others. Often I have had promptings to serve someone and have acted upon it. Every time I do, I feel like the "Hands of Christ." It's great to be able to serve others in that way. Show more Show less
