Hi I'm David

I became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while living in Alaska in 1977.

About Me

I am 65 years old and retired from a thirty plus year career in the US Forest Service. Many folks tell me I had a life of high adventure---indeed I have been extremely blessed with many wonderful experiences in the great out of doors. My area of expertise was wilderness management and trail construction and maintenance. In addition I wrote about and taught traditional tools. I also swerved 11 years in the US Army and Army National Guard. I am a pilot (single engine land) hold a military equivalent of a 1st Mate ticket on vessels up to 150 tons and am a licensed Ham radio operator. I am proficient in just about all forms of transportation used on trails from horses, snowmobile, skies, ATV's, mountain bikes or motorcycles. I am the father of 4 children, step-father to 8 and grandpa to 13. Both the children and grandchildren live all over the place from Alaska to Arizona, including one son serving in the military.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church because as I searched for the truth with open mind and heart the truthfulness of the message I could not deny. I can testify that there is a God and their is also the adversary.....the devil if you will. That is a starting point. I know that I am a child of God, that he love me. I know that Gods plan for us here on the earth is to enjoy the experience of having a mortal body, learn to control it and to have families. Guided, and living by, God's laws bring happiness. There are many good people in the world but Satan would have us believe that we can pick and choose what laws we want to obey and everything will work out fine. Jesus is the Christ and he showed us the correct way to live while he himself was on the earth. God knew we would occasionally make mistakes and sin and therefore his plan provided a savior for us, even Jesus Christ. We must do all we can to repent of our sins and when we do so the savior's atonement will save us so we can return to live with our Heavenly Father. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ is the only true church on the earth today. It has the authority to perform the necessary ordinances of salvation through the restored priesthood. That authority can not come from man or a theological college or degree. It must come from someone who have the authority. I have been happy throughout my life since becoming a member almost 40 years ago. I know why I am on the earth----what I'm to do----and where I will go after leaving this life. I love my savior and strive to do what he would have me do. I invite all to listen to the message the church offers and see for yourselves.

How I live my faith

I have served in the church for many years in a variety of ways. Currently, and in the past I have worked with the youth, been a scoutmaster, and teach Sunday school. I have been involved as a traveling minister where I would visit other congregations other than my own once a month. I have also been a called missionary on several occasions. My wife and I also serve in the Saint Louis Temple where it is our privilege to assist patrons who are doing the work there for their ancestors.
