Hi I'm Jennie

I am an Alabama girl, born and raised. I'm a wife, mother, and PhD student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 35 and live in Alabama. I'm a mom, a wife, a sister, a daughter and a friend -- to name a few of my roles. My sweet husband and I are blessed with three awesome kids a son and twin daughters. I'm a nerd! I've just started working on my PhD in Composition and Rhetoric. I love to read, write, and teach.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the Church when I was very young. I was raised in the Church, but that's not why I'm a Mormon today. I'm a Mormon because the gospel has given me peace and understanding that this life is not all there is. I know that I am a child of God, and it's not just me - everyone on this Earth is His child. I know where I came from and where I'm going. The gospel of Jesus Christ is simple and pure. It was given to us for our benefit. Heavenly Father, like any father, wants His children to be happy. This gospel is the way!

How I live my faith

For the past four years I have served as the leader of the classes for children in the Church, called Primary. I love children and find great joy in teaching. Children are so fresh from Heavenly Father's presence and so eager to learn! Honestly, the children have taught me just as much maybe more than I've taught them. Outside of church, I try to serve others that I come in contact with. Service is a key principle of the gospel. In serving others we lose our self-centered tendencies and grow closer to not only our fellowman but also our God. I've served in formal capacities within my community, but service does not have to be formal. Kindness is service.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

No, no one is required to serve a mission. The decision to serve a mission is a personal choice stemming from an individual's desire and ability to serve. Young men, ages 19-26, are encouraged to be worthy and to serve a mission. Young women can also serve missions, although they must be at least 21 years old. Senior adults can serve missions, too! My husband served a mission for two years from the ages of 19-21. I did not serve a mission, but we hope to serve together when we are older and retired. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell to you there is a God?

Everything in the world around me tells me that God is real. I cannot look at this beautiful world and believe that it was created by some cosmic accident. The natural world is one of order, and order cannot come from chaos. Aside from that, there are inherent truths that all humans acknowledge and feel. We all want to love and be loved. We all want to be happy. We all have relationships that we want to continue after this life. These inherent truths do not occur by accident our Heavenly Father made these a part of our spiritual nature so that we could return to live with Him after this life is over. Show more Show less
