Hi I'm Ammon

I was born and raised in Salt Lake City Utah. I enjoy expanding my mind through continual study. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy talking politics and economics, playing video and board games with my children and any time, alone or with others, with my wife. Like many people today, I'm working hard to provide a comfortable life for my family. To me, life is an exciting adventure and each new challenge brings an opportunity to grow. Talking about truth and principles is one of my favorite pastimes. My hopes for my children are that they can expand their mind by gaining a life-long love of learning, so I encourage them to fulfill and transcend educational requirements and to look at education as something to seek, rather something to endure. I seek to further my own education by continual reading and study on subjects that I feel will help me become the person I need to be in order to influence the world and build the kingdom of God.

Why I am a Mormon

First of all because as a christian the hope that comes through the atonement of Jesus Christ is what keeps my life full of hope, despite my own personal weaknesses, and the turmoil that exists in the world. Specifically about being a Mormon - in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, I find rational resolution to the contradictions and paradoxes found in society. The doctrines of the church help me to keep the perspective that even though I don't know everything I am encouraged to find out as much as I can about truth and life and to use my own mind and reason to find truth, while still relying on a benevolent Father in Heaven, who cares about me personally, affirms when I have found truth, makes me aware of when I am mistaken, and directs me in my search when truth is eluding me.

How I live my faith

Though I am by no means perfect, and I fail frequently, I give a sincere effort to live a life which honors Jesus Christ, and gives credibility to my testimony of the restored gospel. I continually focus on being a good husband and father. I serve as a BSA Leader over the 11 year old scouts patrol, as an instructor for people preparing to go to the temple, and as an instructor for the High Priests Group (a group of seasoned male members of the church). I defend the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. It is important to me to do my best to focus my efforts on positive persuasion over negative comparisons and contention.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Ammon
The best way is education. If we help people to understand the sacred nature of the body and of the intimate relationship between a man and a woman, we can avoid the need for legislation, which has the tendency to alienate and appear like coercion. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Ammon
No. The church encourages its members to be active in their community and to participate in the political process under which they live to the full extent, but they do not endorse political parties. Show more Show less

How do I become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)?

Ammon
Membership is more than just getting baptized - it requires a belief in the doctrines and foundation of the church. It is a paradigm shift. The best thing you can do is to speak with members of the church about their faith observe their daily actions, keeping in mind that no one is perfect and that everybody falls short of their own moral ideal. Look more to their intentions and ideals and their efforts to improve than in how they fall short. Then ask them to help you learn more about the church by sitting with you while you take some lessons, given by missionaries, designed to give you a basic understanding of church doctrine. Be willing to make a life changing commitment to continual improvement, not to immediate perfection. Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

Ammon
First of all we should have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is through faith in him, that we can also gain faith in ourselves and others. Through his atonement we gain the assurance and emotional strength to forgive and work toward eternal progression. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Ammon
It is a record giving another example, along with the Bible, of the divinity of the Lord Jesus Christ and his love for his children. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Ammon
Yes! How reassuring to know that we have a loving Heavenly Father who doesn't leave us to find the way without direction. The prophet today is an inspired man of God. I know him to be the Lord's chosen, not because of any bureaucratic credentials, but because of his love of the Lord and of the Gospel, as well as his compassion and care for all of our Heavenly Father's children, all over the world. What is faith?

Ammon
Faith is the source of all action. It is a degree of confidence in something that leads you to act on it. Faith is gained by, first being open to learning new things and having a paradigm that is open to growth. Then you act on the things you learn, examining the effect in your life. Show more Show less
