Hi I'm Dave

I'm a lawyer, a litigator, a singer, a father of five, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a second-career lawyer and father of five. I enjoy reading, singing, rough-housing with my five kids, and date night with my beautiful wife.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up around Mormons but didn't get involved until right after I married. My wife and I knew we wanted to raise our children in a church, but we weren't sure which. Just as we were talking about checking out the Mormon church, a couple LDS missionaries knocked on the door and invited us to church. We went the next day and immediately felt at home. We instantly had over 100 new friends, and they got us involved in all sorts of activities. Most of all, I felt the Spirit during our meetings. I came to realize how much He loved me and wanted the best for me. After studying and praying about it, I knew with greater certainty than anything I have ever known that the LDS church was the right church for me. I was baptized a member of the church about a month later.

How I live my faith

I help lead a men's group at church, arranging activities and sometimes teaching lessons. In the past I've been a choir director, a financial clerk, and a Sunday School teacher, sometimes for adults and other times for kids. Outside of church, I live my faith by being a straight shooter, by praying and reading scriptures, and by always striving to have a home where anyone who comes inside can feel the joy and love.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Back in 1833, the prophet Joseph Smith received a revelation from God now called the Word of Wisdom. The Word of Wisdom is the Lord's law as it relates to what we take into our bodies. It tells us to eat some things in moderation, but to abstain from other things, like hot drinks (understood to mean coffee), tea, alcohol, and tobacco. In the spirit of the Word of Wisdom, prophets have also since spoken out against the use of illegal drugs. Following the Word of Wisdom helps us to keep our bodies and minds healthy and strong. It also helps us to feel closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and keep our lines of communication open with them. I have prayed about it and the Holy Spirit confirmed to me that the Word of Wisdom is a good principle. I have lived the Word of Wisdom and not lived it, and I can say with great confidence that obeying the Word of Wisdom provides blessings and power you would never expect. I don't think anybody's bad solely because they drink coffee, tea, or alcohol, or use drugs, I just know I have been much better off without it, and you will be too. Show more Show less
