Hi I'm Richard Read Arnold

I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA and have spent the majority of my life in Utah. When I was sixteen years old, my family moved to Denver (Aurora) Colorado where I graduated from Aurora Central High School. I graduated from Brigham Young University in June 1968 with a major in accounting and a minor in Business Management and Economics. I worked for thirty years in the electric utility business in the accounting, systems development, and management functions of the accounting and budgeting areas. The last ten years of my working careet were spent as a controller and CFO of a company in the giftware industry here in Salt Lake City. I am presently retired.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a fifth/sixth generation member of the Mormon church, so I started my earth life being born into the church. Some of my grandparents joined the church in England, Isle of Man, Denmark, Sweden and the eastern part of the United States. I have read of their faithfulness in the restored church and many of their trials as they lived in Ohio, Missouri, Illinois and then traveled from Nauvoo to the Salt Lake Valley. My grandfather Edward Partridge was one of the primary leaders as the church was being persecuted in Missouri and he was tarred and feathered in the town square of Independence, Missouri. My grandfather Amasa Mason Lyman was chained to the Prophet Joseph Smith in prison during the Missouri Persecutions. My grandfather Josiah Arnold was with the Prophet Joseph Smith with he met with Governor Ford, Governor of Illinois, at Carthage Illinois. I have always had a testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the vision that he had of Heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ. I have studied the writings of the church and the scriptures and know that indeed the church is a restoration of the church organized by the Savior himself when he walked here upon the earth. There is nothing here upon the earth that compares to the Kingdom of God that has been restored to the earth by revelation and by the visitation of numerous heavenly messengers. It is true and will bless each life that drinks from the truths of the gospel contained in the church.

How I live my faith

I have always been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and several of my ancestors were among the earliest leaders of the church. My grandfather John Smith was an uncle to the Prophet Joseph Smith; another grandfather Edward Partridge was the first Bishop of the Church; another grandfather Amasa Mason Lyman was among the first apostles of the restored church; another grandfather Josiah Smith was a constable in Nauvoo and helped protect the prophet Joseph Smith and other leaders of the early church; two of my grandmothers pushed and pulled a handcart in the Martin Handcard company that was trapped in the wilds of Wyoming in 1856 while gathering to the Salt Lake Valley. I served a mission for the LDS church in Australia (Southern Australian MIssion - Adelaide, Melbourne & Tasmania) from November 1962 to November 1964. I have worked with the young men of the church for many years in leadership capacities in scouting, service and Aaronic Priesthood. I have served as a Bishop in the church, as a counselor in a Stake Presidency, on a stake high council, among other leadership callings. My wife and I served a mission to a Samoan ward of the church which brought us many friends and a great amount of joy and appiness.
