Hi I'm Patti

I'm a Mormon. I'm a wife, mother, grandmother, and community volunteer.

About Me

I'm a stay-at-home grammie to a darling little girl named Hayden. But, in between Sesame Street, splashing in her little pool, reading books, and cleaning up messes, I enjoy gardening, tennis, boating, machine quilting, hanging with my adult kids, and traveling with my best friend who happens to be my husband of 28 years. I am on the board of a couple charities. One is a Kid's Cafe in inner-city Charlotte. The Kid's Cafe provides free meals, tutoring, and activities for 45-50 poor children. I'm also involved with the development of an African-American museum of church history. I am also involved in my neighborhood planning social activities for the neighborhood children and writing the neighborhood newsletter.

Why I am a Mormon

Most people would think I'm a Mormon because my ancestors joined the church in the 1830's in England. But, when I was 19 I made the personal decision to be a Mormon and live the gospel in every way. It's a way of life and eternal life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in a very active way by reaching out to people in need. Loving those who need love. I believe when I serve others I am also serving Jesus Christ. I visit older sisters who need friendship and understanding to their age-related issues. I have met some wonderful ladies.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

I served a mission to Australia in the 1980s. Like all missionaries my family and myself paid for all my expenses during the 18 months I was serving. Missionaries live frugally but it's good because the purpose of missions is to teach the gospel. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

We live very much like everybody else -- we drive our kids to soccer, participate in the PTA, work in our yards, go shopping, eat out, go to work -- but we also have unpaid positions in our church that sometimes take a lot of time, we keep the Sabbath Day holy, we follow a health code which forbids alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs, we try to live a healthy lifestyle. We believe in families and do all we can to raise good children. Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

The Church grows because of the truth it teaches. There is no other reason for the growth. The spiritual questions you may have for the most part can be answered through the scriptures and the missionary discussions. Show more Show less
