Hi I'm Benjamin

I'm a Mormon. I joined the Church in August of 2004. The Missionaries found me after I asked Heavenly Father for help.

About Me

I am a sheet metal fabricator. I have a 16 yr old step-son from a previous marriage, a 10 month old son, and a baby on the way. I was a Scoutmaster for several years. I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, fishing and hunting.

Why I am a Mormon

After years of searching for the "right Church", I had pretty much given up. I had just separated from my previous spouse and was trying to drown the pain w/ alcohol. One night I hit my knees and said my first "real" prayer. I simply asked God for help. A few days later I had just returned home and was going to leave again shortly. By inspiration the Missionaries showed up at my house at the precise time that I was home. It was no accident. I joined the LDS Church shortly after, and have been active ever since.

How I live my faith

I am by no means "perfect", but I do try my best to follow all of God's commandments and try to follow the example of Jesus Christ. After all, the "symbol of our faith" is the way we conduct ourselves on a daily basis. Therefore We strive to live a "Christlike" life. I teach the 8-11 yr old children on Sundays, and try to be a good example to them always.

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

I believe that self-reliance and emergency preparedness are very important for several reasons. In the Old Testament in the Holy Bible, upon interpreting Pharoah's dream, Joseph stated that there would be seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine. He suggested that Pharoah store up grain during the time of plenty to be used during the time of famine. In much the same way, we store food, water and basic needs when we have plenty, so that when hard times fall upon us ( i.e.loss of employment, natural disaster, financial hardships ) we will have enough to see us through until situations improve. It also gives us a means to help others that may have a need or are facing hard times. Show more Show less
