Hi I'm Flo

I grew up in Brigham City, Utah. I taught choir for six years. Now, I have a husband and six children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name, Flo, comes from my great-grandmother, Florence. I was named after her and I have tried to learn about her life since my parents admired her so much.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because my parents raised me that way and as I grew, a testimony of the Gospel grew in my heart. I have stayed close to the LDS Church because of the strength and help the Church has given me to remain happily married and raise a family. The Church has also taught me how to nurture a relationship with God that makes life rich and rewarding.

How I live my faith

I like to read the scriptures, fast and pray to try to stay close to my Heavenly Father. I attend the temple also. I help teach the four-year-old children of our ward. We call them the Sunbeam Class. Genealogy and family history are also an important part of my schedule.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Flo
During the Pioneer era of the church the practice of polygamy was established, similar to some Biblical times when commanded by God. Some of my ancestors were part of this practice. It helped establish the church during a critical time which only lasted a few decades. In 1890 the law was changed. Monogamy is now the accepted standard. Anyone who calls himself or herself a Mormon and engages in this practice today is promptly excommunicated. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Flo
The scriptures enlighten my life, my mind and my heart. My favorite quote of Pres. Monson's from the October 2013 Conference was when he was speaking to the women about the scriptures. He said, "I never tire of reading them." (see November Ensign 2013, p. 122.) I have read the Holy Bible through about three times. The Old Testament is sometimes hard to get through but it's like a mine of precious stones; every little while something unique and wonderful comes to light enriching my mind and soul. I like the New Testament because of the rich stories of Jesus and his teachings. The Book of Mormon is a wonderful second "Testament of Jesus Christ." It contains many uplifting stories and teachings from prophets and from Jesus Christ himself. I also value the Doctrine and Covenants. I served for a few years as a Relief Society President. The Doctrine and Covenants touched me in a very personal and real way during that period of service. It contains many teachings of loving leadership. I bear testimony of the truths and spirit of the scriptures. I know they are true. Show more Show less
