Hi I'm Michael

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in East Los Angeles and was introduced to the church when I was in high school.

About Me

I recently retired after being a cop for almost 30 years. I've seen it all; both the good and the bad. I can't imagine living without the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. It gives me strength, it gives me hope and it gives me the optimism to look ahead with a strong sense of security and comfort. My wife and I love our children and our grandchildren but most important we love the Lord and look to him for guidance in our lives.

Why I am a Mormon

Shortly before I turned 18 I was introduced to the church through some friends in high school. The church was dramatically foreign to me and although I had serious doubts about the veracity of the claims of Joseph Smith, I liked attending church and I really liked being around church members. I made up my mind that I would continue associating with the church but that I would not become a member. With time, I began a serious study of the Book of Mormon. I intended to justify my doubts by finding faults in it. Instead, the opposite happened. The book "captured my heart" and before long, I could not doubt that it was true. With my testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon also came my reluctant realization that Joseph Smith was really a prophet. I was baptized and in 11 months I was entering the mission field to serve a full-time mission. My testimony of the Book of Mormon has remained strong throughout my life and I have grown to love and revere Joseph Smith, the great prophet of this dispensation.

How I live my faith

I wish I could say that I have been a "perfect," faithful member at all times but I can't. I have had difficult periods in my life but both my wife and I find that these experiences strengthen us and help us to be more empathetic and understanding of others. I receive great satisfaction in serving in the church and have always been involved in teaching or in some leadership capacity. I strive to live a good, moral life. I find great strength in working to be humble, something that has been difficult for me at times.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Michael
Yes, I know with all of my heart that the current President of the Church is a prophet, just as Moses was in ancient times. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Michael
No, we do not worship Joseph Smith, but we do honor and revere him for the great work that he did. He is the "great Prophet of this dispensation" and I personally am thankful for the things that he has accomplished. Show more Show less
