Hi I'm Melissa

I am a mom of four beautiful kids with autism. I am a teacher and a musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a musician, teacher and mom of 4. As a mom to children with autism, I am actively engaged in the community. Recently, I was a presenter at the Twin Cities inaugural Listen To Your Mother, a national program that gives motherhood a microphone. I am a mommy blogger with a special niche. I blog about my journey as a mom of children with autism through post-partum depression and anxiety.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the LDS church, but that does not mean that I haven't had my own conversion process. I've spent a lot of time studying our doctrine and the doctrine of other faiths. I have questioned and questioned. I have thought about switching religions. I have come to the conclusion over many years that this is where I need to be. This is where my testimony of Christ and the Atonement has been nurtured. I am a Mormon because it is the best fit for me.

How I live my faith

I just finished working as the secretary for our women's organization. This week, I am starting work as one of the regional leaders for our children's program. In the community, I am involved in the schools and with our early childhood program. I live my faith by trying to simply improve the world for others. Whether it is holding an umbrella for a young mom or bringing a meal to someone, I think it is the little things that we do that speak of Christ.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Absolutely not! Formal missions are encouraged around age 19, but there is no requirement. I did not serve a formal mission and I am a member in good standing. While formal missions aren't required, I think it is important for each member of our church to be a missionary by example. I try to live my life in such a way that I can share the love our Heavenly Father has for each of us. As we try to exemplify Christ in our lives, we point the way to Him and are therefore, missionaries in our right. Show more Show less
