Hi I'm Alex

I grew up in Las Vegas. I enjoy cookies, running, and Jimmy Buffet. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I find myself to be a living paradox. I graduated from college with a degree in Anthropology. I've always been interested in other cultures and figuring out how others see the world. I have a passion for people. This passion has led me to write. As an anthropologist, I was trained to write everything I see. I have a deep love of journals and blogs. However, my love of anthropology also causes me to analyze everything. I'm quiet in large groups until I understand my place. I also am a Parrothead. I've never had a drink of alcohol in my life but I love nothing more than a good Jimmy Buffett concert. I know all the words to every song (not just the standards...) and listen to Jimmy Buffett 98% of the day, Love it. I am a runner. I'm currently training for my 4th half marathon and am considering doing a full marathon soon. Health is so important to me. There are so many things in this life that we don't have control over but health is something we can always be proactive about. On the other hand, I love a good cookie. No day is complete without a cookie. I don't make sense in a lot of ways but I am glad to know my Heavenly Father gets me, even when I don't understand myself. I'm grateful to be a paradox and I enjoy keeping things interesting.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a member of the church but I still have a conversion story. I went to church all through my life but I feel like college was when I became converted. It's easy to go to church when your parents are waking you up and taking you as a family, when you're on your own, you sense that it's more of a choice. Luckily, I have always had great friends so I never had to go to church alone. Leaving my family, I had to come to know if the church was true for myself. I'm a Mormon because nothing brings me greater happiness. I know what life is like when I don't pray, and I know what it's like when I do. I know what life is like when I skip scripture study, and I know what it's like to feast on the words of Christ. I know that my life has a greater happiness, a greater meaning, and a more fulfilled purpose when I am following the principles of the gospel. I know the church enhances my life in more ways than I even know. Heavenly Father is constantly watching over us. He knows us personally and He loves us. He wants us to succeed and to return to Him.

How I live my faith

Currently, I'm serving as a Temple Preparation teacher. Each Sunday I meet with the youth of the church and talk about how we can prepare to go to the temple. I've only been married for 3 years so the temple is still new to me but it's refreshing to constantly be reminded of the things we can do to prepare ourselves for that sacred experience. It's important to be prepared not only the first time that you go, but every time after as well.
