Hi I'm Jay Hales

I am a husband, a father, a nurse anesthetist, a veteran, a scouter, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married and have five children and eleven grandchildren. They are a great joy in my life. I am a nurse anesthetist and practice anesthesia in MIssouri. I am involved in the use and the advancement of our electronic record where I work. I did my nursing education through Weber State University in Ogden, Utah and my nurse anesthesia graduate degree through Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. What a great job I have. It is a pleasure to help people who are sick or injured, especially to set their mind at ease before a procedure. I enjoy camping, fishing and kayaking. I work with the Boy Scout organization locally, which has been a fun challenging part of my life. My wife and I enjoy traveling to new places and discovering the culture and history of those places. A few years ago we traveled to England and Sweden to visit the places where some of our ancestors come from. It was a wonderful to see the land they lived on and the churches they attended. From great cathedrals in London to little village chapels in the countryside. We felt at home in those places. I served for 15 years in the Army National Guard and Reserves. As a former soldier and a veteran of Operation Desert Storm I have a great love for my country. I am also grateful for those who serve today to continue to protect our liberty.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have wonderful parents who taught me good Christian standards to live by. However I wanted to know for myself that this religion was right, that it was not just another church or a cultural system I had grown up in and around. I studied and prayed for some time about this question. I received a powerful witness from God through his Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ is our Saviour, that God loves us and has restored His church on the earth as in the time of Christ. There is a living prophet on the earth today. We needs Gods direction as much today as did the people of ancient times who had prophets on the earth toe lead them. I have had since that time many reaffirmations that this is true. Also by living the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ has brought greater happiness to myself and my family.

How I live my faith

I have served in different responsibilities in our church over the years. I am fortunate to be working with the youth again and their leaders. I get to help work with our teenage youth and help them as them make decisions and take charge of meetings and activities. They are amazing. I also work as a volunteer in Scouting on a District and Council level. It takes time but it is exciting to help this organization and the many volunteer leaders be successful in helping teach youth the values of Scouting.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Jay Hales
As I use the Bible as part of my scripture study it helps me gain a greater insight into God' love for me and how Jesus Christ did so much for me as my Savior. I like to use verses from the Bible when I have a principle to teach, especially with our youth. It drives home the point better than I can say it. Show more Show less
