Hi I'm Debi

I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. I am happy. Joining this church is the best thing I ever did in my life.

About Me

I have always loved spiritual things. As I grew up I went to a number of different Christian churches. I felt close to God and always felt his love for me. As a girl, I sang in church choirs, went to Vacation Bible School, memorized Bible verses, attended fun church camps, and participated in youth church activities. I had one brief encounter with Mormon missionaries when I was in high school. They told me about Joseph Smith and that Christ had visited the Americas. These were completely new concepts to me. They said the church was "true." I did not know any members of the church. Soon, I forgot about the missionaries. Five years later I was a young mother with a 2 year old son. I decided to read the Bible from cover to cover. Every day I read for two hours while my son napped. I began to have impressions about the Mormon Church...I didn't know why. After a time, I decided to pray and ask God if he was trying to send me a message about the Church. I knew that there were missionaries, although I had never seen a missionary since my first encounter. I prayed, asking God to send missionaries to me if he wanted me to find out more about this church. Heavenly Father had a wise plan for my life. He answered my prayer by sending two Elders to my door. I have been grateful every day of my life for the truth they brought me. I KNOW that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. It has blessed my life without measure.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know that God lives and loves each of his children. Everything I have learned and everything that has been introduced to my life since I joined this church in 1974 has been good. Communicating with my Heavenly Father through prayer is an essential part of my life and he has revealed to me that it is right. The church is true, restored to the earth by Joseph Smith for our day. The Bible and The Book of Mormon are in agreement. I have read and studied both extensively. The Church is led by a living prophet today, President Thomas S. Monson. I have listened to and followed his words and the words of all of the modern day Prophets since I joined the church and doing so has brought me great peace and happiness. I will follow the words of the Savior and live as he wants me to do all the days of my life.

How I live my faith

Because I have been so blessed by my Heavenly Father, I try to live my life in accordance to his will. I try to help my friends and neighbors when I see a need. When I go to the store or to the park or on other everyday activities, I try my best to smile at people, make eye contact, and speak to them. When I am at church, I make an effort to greet new people and get to know them. I like to help keep my neighborhood clean, sometimes taking a bag around the neighborhood to pick up trash. With the help of a city liaison I recently organized a neighborhood association in our area. As I raised my children, I volunteered in their schools. I had a child with a handicap, so I volunteered in a parent support group. Now that my children are grown, I volunteer in our City government and I also work part time. Over the years I have served in the church leading and teaching the young children, the teenagers, and the grown women. It has been a joy to serve. Life has brought me many joys and also some heartaches. I had a son born with a birth defect that required a heart transplant and his life was a struggle. Because the knowledge of the gospel blessed my life, I was able to endure the heartache of his death. I was able to feel the peace that the gospel of understanding brings and thereby live my life more fully and completely. I learned many of the most important lessons of my life during those hard years. Heavenly Father was my constant companion. He helped me to walk by faith and live my faith.
