Hi I'm Jay

I am the only Mormon in my family. I chose to join the church when I was 18 years old. It was the best decision I have ever made

About Me

I am a Father of 2 kids and live in Woodbury, MN with my wife and kids. I am a Certified Financial Planner by profession and enjoy riding my bike, traveling and reading in my spare time. I have a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota and enjoy researching and speaking on the topic of behavioral economics.

Why I am a Mormon

I am the only Mormon in my family and history of my family that I know of. I got to know the church when I was a teen and decided to join when I was 18. I have found that the church tells it like it is. It does not try to sugarcoat or otherwise dismiss teachings and commandments that are difficult for a mortal person to follow. None of us are perfect, but it doesn't mean we can't try to be better each day. And the great thing is that a partnership and friendship with Christ will help us get through any challenge that comes our way. As a father who lost a child and felt the intense sting of death, I can tell you that Christ is everything. He is the hope and He is the reason that life can be better tomorrow, despite the setbacks. Life is so much easier to live when we have the eternal perspective and peaceful feelings that all will be OK one day, all thanks to Christ.

How I live my faith

I enjoy going to church and participating in the teaching/learning. I have been teaching the young men age 12-18 for several years and love it. These are kids who are trying to figure out who they are. They may get confused and tempted that drugs, partying and sex is what life as a young man is all about. It is an honor to be the other voice that encourages them to have respect for themselves, their bodies and women. It is amazing to see the strength and confidence of a young man who chooses to follow Christ over the things of the world.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Temples are used for the eternal things in life. Things that can be done for this life only can be done in churches or other public places. However, when we cross the "veil" into the eternities, those can only be done in the most sacred buildings on earth, the temple. Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

ABSOLUTELY! Families are made to be eternal. Since this is of eternal nature, the ordinance of marriage and family ties can only be done in temples. For those that passed away without the temple "sealing" into eternity, others can go to the temple for the deceased and perform these important ordinances so all can choose to be together forever,if they want.
