Hi I'm Dave

I am an executive in Modesto, California. I work in economic development and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am happily married and the father of five children. I work in economic development for the Colorado Springs area. I like to climb 14ers, hike, bike, fish, and enjoy nature. I love American history, reading, Disneyland, travel, ballroom dancing, golf and all sports.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have wonderful parents who taught me at an early age to love and serve the Savior, Jesus Christ. I learned at an early age about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I served a mission for the Church in Austria and have served in various capacities throughout my life.

How I live my faith

I try to treat everyone with love and respect. I live a clean life with complete fidelity to my wife of 30 plus years. I don't smoke or drink. I try to follow Jesus' teachings in everything I do. I think the best motto in life is to "do unto others, as you would have them do unto you." I strive to serve my neighbors and Church members, especially two widows to whom I am assigned to check in on and share a spiritual message each month.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon was written by ancient prophets who were led to the Americas from Jerusalem. They wrote and prophecied about the Savior Jesus Christ. Their teachings are in harmony with the Bible and lead people to follow Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What is the difference between attending a Mormon Church and a Mormon Temple?

A Mormon Church or meetinghouse is where the weekly activities and church services take place. We hold Church services on Sunday and all are welcome to attend. Additionally, during the course of the week, youth activities, sporting events, musical events and other activities take place in the meetinghouse which is designed for multiple uses and events. The Mormon Temple is a scared place that has been dedicated by a Prophet of God for Mormons to receive special ordinances such as marriage. To enter the House of the Lord or the Temple, one must be found worthy (living a clean and pure life) by priesthood authority. Show more Show less

Where did Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints begin?

The roots of the Church are ancient. We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the same Church that the Savior Jesus Christ organized anciently, based on the foundation of prophets and apostles. We believe that over time that Church fell into apostacy, as the apostles were killed. On April 6, 1830 under divine authority, Joseph Smith the Prophet organized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since that time, we have had a prophet and 12 apostles leading and guiding the Church on earth and receiving direct revelation from God. Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

We should have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It was Jesus who was born in Bethlehem, taught his Gospel, died on the cross, atoned for our sins in the Garden of Gethsamane and rose from the dead. He paved the way for all of us to achieve salvation and eternal life, so long as we have faith in Him and keep His commandments. Show more Show less

What is the Relief Society?

The Relief Society is the official organization for women in the Mormon Church. The Relief Society was founded in 1842 and is one of the oldest women's organizations in the world. The Relief Society has its own officers, all women, and serves the spiritual and temporal needs of Church members in wonderful, dynamic ways. Relief Society officers sit in the various councils of the Church and offer their insight as to how the needs of the members should be met. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Missionaries are funded through their own resources or those of their families. Serving a mission is a sacrifice and a joy. It requires a young man to serve two years of his life in an area away from his family. Missionaries serve the people to whom they are called to serve. They live strict standards. They put in long hours in helping to bring people unto Christ. The main benefit of missionary service is the good news of the Gospel bringing happiness and joy to those who seek it. But there are also great blessings to the missionary. They learn hard work, discipline, time management, budgeting, leadership skills and how to get along with others. I served a mission when I was 19 years old in the nation of Austria. Our oldest son served his mission in Hungary. Our second son served in Armenia. Our third son is serving in Honduras. Our fourth son will go on his mission in May 2012. Our daughter also would like to go. (Women serve for 18 months). Each of them has come away from his missionary experience with a great love for the people and an abiding testimony of the divinity of the Savior Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
