Hi I'm Mike

I'm from Sandy, Utah and am a student, but most importantly, I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm a student finishing up my undergraduate degree in Communications. I'm also studying business and italian and I will graduate next April. The end is in sight! I work part time during school. I have three little brothers and a little sister and of course two great parents. I love my family! I love all kinds of sports and keeping in shape. I also really like to read. I love people and learning from them.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the Mormon church or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the church that is led and inspired by our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. It is their church and they guide it through living Prophets and Apostles. It is amazing to listen to men who communicate with God the same way ancient Prophets did. I am a Mormon because I need to know God! I need to know what He needs me to be doing and learning in this life. I need to have the protection that guidance through Prophets provides. I am so grateful for the knowledge I have that my sins and other shortcomings can be forgiven through the sacrifice of the Savior, Jesus Christ. I'm grateful for my testimony of Him and for how He has guided my life especially during the tough times. When things are not going my way, I know that God knows me and understands what I'm going through and will help me.

How I live my faith

Right now I serve as a Sunday School teacher in my ward. I have studied the scriptures all of my life, but I have never really delved into the Old Testament too much. This year we are studying it and I have absolutely loved the stories and lessons that I've been able to study and share. Learning about and trying to live the principles taught in the scriptures are so important to having happiness in my life. I'm grateful for the scriptures and the opportunity to learn from them. They really help me to live my faith.

What is the First Vision?

The first vision is one of the most important things that has ever happened in the history of this world! It resulted from a simple prayer to know the truth. In 1820 Joseph Smith was a young 14 year old boy in upstate New York. He had faith in the Savior and really wanted to do what was right. He knew that when Christ was on the earth He had organized His church and called Apostles and Prophets to lead it. Joseph really wanted to find the Lord's church. There were many religions that were preaching in those days. It seemed that each one had their own views and interpretations of Christ's teachings. Joseph was very confused and didn't know where to turn. One day he read a scripture in James 1:5 in the New Testament that basically said that if he lacked wisdom, he should pray and ask God. That scripture really hit him and so he decided to ask God which church was the correct church. One beautiful spring morning, he went to a nearby grove of trees and knelt down and prayed to know which of all the churches was the one that he should join. After his prayer an amazing experience happened. Joseph said he saw a pillar of light that gradually fell upon him. When the light rested on him he saw two people standing before him. One of the men introduced the other as His beloved son, Jesus Christ. It was Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ! They appeared to him that day and instructed him to join none of the churches. They explained that many of the churches taught the gospel, but were not guided by them and that their church had been lost after the death of Christ and the deaths of His apostles. From this amazing experience, Joseph learned that the truth he sought was not on the earth at that time. He also learned that it was going to be through him that the Heavenly Father was going to restore His true gospel again on the earth. The First Vision began the restoration of the gospel in these days and Joseph became the first prophet and through him many important truths were restored to the earth. Today we are guided by a living Prophet who communicates with God and helps us to know the things we should be doing to live happy lives! I am so thankful for that scripture that prompted Joseph to ask God which church was true. I know that if we lack wisdom or need help or direction in our lives, we can do what Joseph did and ask God. Because God loves us, He will answer us just like He answered Joseph! Show more Show less
