Hi I'm Jim

I grew up in a small town in central Alberta in Canada. I am a teacher. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the small town of 2000 in central Alberta, Canada. I was the only Mormon in my grade, and one of only a few in our school. I went to College and University, all in Alberta as well, to become a teacher. I went on a mission to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am married to my beautiful wife and have three kids. I love to read, watch movies, write my novel, and spend time with friends and family. I am currently working as a teacher in the city I currently live in.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up being a Mormon. My parent are both converts, and raised my three other siblings and myself as Mormons. Growing up, I learned about the gospel from my parents, especially my dad. I would always see my dad reading the scriptures or other church books, and often, he would call me over to share some insight he had learned, or some interesting gospel fact or doctrine, which greatly impacted my life. I went to church, and did everything a good Mormon boy should do. However, like everyone who either joins the church or grows up in the LDS church, I had to find out whether what I had been taught and believed all my life was true. So, when I was 19, I chose to go on a mission, where my faith and understanding in the gospel was strengthened and secured. There I remembered many of the things my dad had taught me as a kid, and have remained strong in the church all my life. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church of Jesus Christ. We are led by a prophet of God and 12 apostles who lead us today, just as the prophets and apostles led Gods chosen people in the Old and New Testament. I know the Book of Mormon is true, and an ancient record of the word of god given to those who lived here on the Americas in ancient times. I know Jospeh SMith was chosen by God to be the prophet of the restoration, to restore the ancient church of Jesus Christ, with apostles, prophets, the priesthood of god, the true ordinaces of baptism by immersion and the laying on of lands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, temples and temple worship, and divine leadership through direct revelation from God. We are what we profess to be - the only true church on the earth withh all the doctrines and ordinaces necessary for salvation and exaltation with our Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, members participate in the general functions and operations of the church without being paid otherwise called a lay clergy. Each ward congregation within a community is led by a Bishop and his 2 councillors. Within each ward, there are different callings jobs and responsibilites given to the members through divine inspiration from the Bishop that allow members opportunities to serve their fellow members and God in some capacity. Callings can be within the childrens, youth, or adult organizations of the church, and help the ward to run smoothly each week. Throughout my life, I've held many callings, such as secretary to various Bishops, teaching gospel doctrine, teaching children, clerk in charge of ward finances and membership records, ward activities coordinator, etc. Currently, I oversee all the teachers that teach the youth and adults, ensuring they are teaching what they are supposed to and keeping track of the rolls of the those attending those classes. Also, all adult males are assigned to 2-5 familes who they are to visit monthly, to hlep and strenghten them in the gospel. This allows me to get to know members of my ward, and serve them in the way Jesus would if he were here. As the head of our home, I try to keep myself and family strong in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We read the scriptures, pray together, go to church, study Sunday lessons prior to the Sunday they are taught, attend various church activities, and have family night every Monday night. Personally I listen to the scriptures on my Ipod as I do morning papers, and read other church books.
