Hi I'm Kelvin

I am an IT professional, a father, a husband, an amateur chef. Most importantly I'm a Mormon.

About Me

First and foremost, I am a Husband and Father. I have an amazing wife, who I met at a church dance when I was 14. We were fast friends. We were best friends, though not dating steady, all through High School. We got married at 21 and are still best friends. My two kids keep me young. My daughter loves to learn about the computer and my son is really active. He will play any sport and love it. Being well rounded is important to me. I am an IT professional. I love my job. I am also an amateur chef, singer, writer, runner, hiker and landscaper. I love to cook. I cook dinner most evenings in my home. My wife graciously lets me invade the kitchen. I took seven years of private voice lessons and I love to sing. I cannot blend with a choir well, but I have a strong second tenor solo voice. I am outlining many writing ideas. I hope to be published soon. In 2007, I ran my first marathon. I am hoping to run another one in 2 years, after I get back into proper shape. I love hiking in the mountains. The feeling of hiking into a remote location with all of life's necessities on my back and staying a while is wonderful. I like to take a few hiking trips every year. Fresh out of High School I worked with a landscaper. Ever since I have enjoyed working in my yard. It is satisfying to mow, edge, weed, plant and see the results after a long Saturday.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon requires a level of commitment that cannot be maintained without a sure knowledge that it is the church led by Jesus Christ himself. I have come to personally know this to be true. Through the works of the church members and my own prayers I have felt the testifying spirit of the Holy Ghost confirm that I am a member of Jesus Christ's church on the earth and that he leads it today through a living prophet, Thomas S. Monson. This fact keeps me focused on living the gospel of Jesus Christ as I face the challenges of life.

How I live my faith

I volunteer in various positions in my congregation, as assigned by the leaders of my congregation. I set an example in my daily life among my co-workers, friends and family. It is important that I show my love and devotion to my Savior in word and deed.

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Tithing is used to fund the daily operations of the church and to expand the church through missionary work. This includes building and paying the operating costs for church buildings and temples. The LDS church is a volunteer church, so none of the tithing money is used to pay clergy. Show more Show less

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

A husband and wife are equal partners in a family. Heavenly Father has established different roles for the parents, as he himself outlined in the garden of Eden. The husband should be the primary wage earner for the family. He should lead by example and treat the family as the Savior would treat his church, as mentioned by Paul in the New Testament. The wife naturally takes a nurturing role with the family. She adds a softness to the family that a man does not instinctively have. She should be home with young children, if the families circumstances will allow. It is important for a husband and wife to help each other with these responsibilities. Husbands should shoulder some of the household duties such as cleaning and helping with the children. The wife should also help take the lead in the home as the husband is unable to. Most importantly, the couple should seek the direction of the Holy Ghost together to aid in deciding how they should manage their own home and family. Each home is different in ways that make it special. Show more Show less
