Hi I'm Maria.

I served as a missionary in Brazil for a year and a half. I love to meet people, play piano, and spend time with my husband.

About Me

I am the fourth of seven children. My family grew up in Virginia. I served as a missionary in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil. A year and a half after returning, I graduated from college with a degree in piano performance. As I prepared for my senior year recital, I met my husband while teaching missionaries preparing to go out into the world to preach the gospel. He and I were married in the Salt Lake City temple, where we were sealed for time and all eternity. My hobbies include running, dancing, singing, reading, playing ping pong, volleyball, meeting people, and learning languages. I speak Spanish, Portuguese, and some French. I am known to laugh a lot, and I appreciate the simple things in life.

Why I am a Mormon

One thing that separates the Mormon religion (or LDS church) from any other is the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion, because it is evidence that God restored the church set up by Christ when He was on the earth. I am Mormon because I believe in the Book of Mormon. It was translated by Joseph Smith, the prophet God called to bring His church back. It contains gospel teachings and truths that we need to know, that were lost as the Bible was translated, and more than anything else, it brings me and all of God's children closer to Christ. When I read the Book of Mormon, I feel peace and happiness. I feel like God is speaking to me, and I feel the desire and need to be a better person. My heart is softened and I want to use my time on the earth to prepare myself to one day meet my Maker.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to be like the Savior Jesus Christ, on whom my faith is centered. Every day is an opportunity to love more, judge less, and spread His gospel to those around me.
