Hi I'm Hops

I'm a writer/musician studying Public Relations. I love Tetris, breakfast and anything checkered. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hey, I'm Hops! I'm studying Public Relations and it's somewhat of a passion I have. I've traveled to nearly every state in the union. I grew up in North Carolina, am spending some time in Idaho, but my heart belongs in New York City. I love the beach, especially Duck, NC. While there, you can usually find me skimboarding, sleeping, eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or writing. I'd like to think of myself as a writer, and I work on a lot of short stories, free-form poetry and currently, my first novel. I've also been in a band for about 7 years writing, playing bass and singing. I also play guitar, ukulele and harmonica and hope to learn the mandolin. I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I prayed and asked God if this church was true and I know now that it is. It only makes sense that God loves all His children and because of that, He will reach out to us and help us know the way through a prophet in the modern times. I feel often the peace that comes through following the commandments of God and trying to be like Christ. I know I will never be perfect, but through the Savior, I know I can always have peace and true happiness in my life. With this Gospel, I don't think I know what it could ever be like to be sad because I know I am one of God's sons and He loves me enough to sacrifice His Only Begotten Son so I can have true joy in this life.

How I live my faith

Well, for starters, I served a two year mission helping spread the news about the restored Gospel, which should say something about my commitment to the church. But, I live my faith by always avoiding things or places that aren't in line with what I believe. I'm not the kind of guy to force what I believe on others, but I make it known among them that I'm not down with certain things. I also am very active in humanitarian services. I think that when we realize the relationship we have with the entire human race - that we're brothers and sisters of a loving Heavenly Father - it all but forces us to want to care for those of them who are less fortunate.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

When we have faith in Jesus Christ, we can find peace in our lives. I feel like before I truly became converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I was always looking for the next exciting distraction to keep me occupied. To keep me entertained and busy. But now I see that even though the world tells me that I 'm twenty, I'm young and I need to find the next big rush or diversion, true happiness comes in feeling peace. The world is a busy and oftentimes scary place. However, through faith in Christ and by following His commandments, we can know that we have security because He, as well as the Father, are watching out for us. Show more Show less
