Hi I'm Tom

I am grateful to be a Mormon! ....and to know what I know.

About Me

I just turned 75 years of age and have been a member of the Church for 37 years....a year short of the 38 years I was a Lutheran. Actually, I should have joined the Church 17 years earlier, but I had two excuses......living the ways of the world and not wanting to hurt my parents feelings by joining another religion, even though I knew that the Church was true! Looking back, I wished that I had had the courage to be baptized earlier as I missed out on the marvelous truths that I have learned about the Plan of Salvation......why we are here and what is possible for us in the next life ....for all eternity. Married my sweetheart in 1958, had 4 children then joined the Church and a year later went to the Salt Lake temple to receive our endowments and be sealed to these children for time and for all eternity. Following this wonderful experience, we had another child, who is now 34! We've just celebrated the 52 anniversary of our ''first marriage'' and the 35th anniversary of our ''second marriage''.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know with all my heart and soul that our restored gospel of Jesus Christ teaches us where we have been, why we are here and where we can enjoy eternal life if we live the principles of the gospel to the fullest. We had a desire to come to earth from the pre-existence where we lived and were nurtured by Heavenly Father. We were born of earthly parents and have an opportunity to be baptized, make important covenants with Heavenly Father and live those covenants so that hopefully, we will be invited to live with Heavenly Father and our Savior again for all eternity. That is the goal we have before us. Life is short and we must not procrastinate the reason that we desired to come to earth. Mormonism constantly reminds us of the goal and helps us obtain it through covenant making and service to others. It's so simple and straight forward, this Plan of Happiness.

How I live my faith

I have learned, line upon line and precept upon precept that by striving to keep the commandments given to us as well as the covenants I have made with Heavenly Father, I have a Christ centered life. Nothing can compare! Life is short and I have come to know that by striving to live the life that is pleasing to God, I am happier and look forward to that day when I will meet my maker again and hopefully, be invited to live with Him again. My ''motto'' so to speak is a quote from Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of our Church: "In the next life, we WILL BE what we have ALLOWED OURSELVES to become in this life". Recently, I have been taught that another meaning of the letters ''CTR'' besides ''Choose the Right" is "Choose to Remember"......the reason we are here and also the covenants we have made to reach the goal of eternal life.....not just living forever, but eternal life....living with Heavenly Father for all eternity.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Tom
Mormon Temples allow worthy members who hold a temple ''recommend'' to enter and be taught in Heavenly Father's ''university'' by His Chief Instructor, the Holy Ghost. There, we can be sealed together with our loved ones for all eternity. What a marvelous feeling it is to be sealed in the Lord's house! Show more Show less
