Amanda: Mormon.

Hi I'm Amanda

About Me

I love anything outdoors especially sports. I especially love baseball. I'm getting my masters degree right now in Athletic Training. I've always loved talking to people and lived in the Philippines for a year and a half talking to others about the LDS beliefs and serving them.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in California with great friends and a great family. I had many experiences that forced me to choose who I wanted to be in life and what I wanted to do. I was blessed with many people in my life who taught me what choices lead to happiness and how to apply the atonement of Jesus Christ in my life. I decided to follow these things and I felt the truthfulness of what was taught. I eventually prayed to know for myself to know which church was true and I received an answer. There's no doubt in my life that the LDS church is the only true church here on earth. I know this because I've applied the teachings in my life and it's the only thing that allows me to truly be happy.

Personal Stories

Why do Mormons go on missions?

I went on a mission because I wanted to share my beliefs with others around me. I wanted everyone to know why I am happy and to somehow feel that happiness in their lives. I served 1 1/2 years of my life away from my family so that others may have the opportunity to know what they can do in order to be able to live with their families for eternity.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

There are so many times when I've sat and read the Book of Mormon and it has told me exactly what I needed to hear and to do. It's as if God is speaking directly to me through the words in the Book of Mormon. Because of that I have been able to develop a closer relationship with God and know what His will is for me in life.

In what ways have your prayers been answered?

I've always struggled with saying meaningful prayers. Even now I struggle to be consistent with my prayers. The Lord always reminds me however that He is listening to and answering my prayers. Just the other day I received an e-mail from someone I know telling me that they had met another person I know in the Philippines that I had been praying for and had lost contact with. They were able to meet one another and found out that they both knew me. It's such a blessing to be able to pray to someone that is always listening and is very mindful of what we need. I know God listens to and answers our prayers. Sometimes it takes time for our prayers to be fulfilled but it is always in His timing because He is the one that knows best.

How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?

I remember one day when I was living in the Philippines I got a letter from a friend letting me know that one of our friends was killed in a tragic car accident. I just started crying and feeling so sad. I remember thinking that it wasn't fair for her to die so young. A friend that I was living with in the Philippines asked me what was wrong and after telling her she told me it's okay. She said it's okay because we know where she is right now. I quickly stopped feeling sad and started to celebrate her life and not mourn her death. She was able to accomplish many things during her life and touched many people. It's so true! The plan of salvation is amazing. We know that after this life there is peace when we live righteously. I know that she is doing many good things right now in the afterlife and is awaiting the judgment and is prepared for that. She lived a good life and I can learn from her example and do the same.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to love and serve those around me. I seek to help others around me in my work environment and in school. I love to learn from them and try to become a better person through others' examples.
