Hi I'm Marilyn

I'm a Mormon. I was blessed to have been born into a Mormon family which has blessed my life every day and every way!

About Me

I am a mother of 5 children who have all left the nest. Since my family has grown and gone, my interests have turned to doing Family History , gardening and Temple work. My husband and I have been married 34 years and we love to ATV in Utah and enjoy the great scenery here. My youngest daughter is serving an LDS mission in Georgia, USA. I enjoy traveling to new places, but am finding that I enjoy doing Family history/Temple work just as much as I do seeing the world, and I can do the family history passion in my own home. So that is great! The gospel is EVERYTHING to me and blesses me in EVERY way!

Why I am a Mormon

I was lucky enough to have been born into a LDS family with great parents who taught me the gospel at an early age. My most favorite memory from my childhood wasn't the trip to Disneyland or any other cool trips we took. My favorite memory was snuggling in next to my mother in front of the fire as she read to our family the stories of Jesus. I knew from a very young age that the stories in the Bible and the Book of Mormon were true. Still, born into the church or not, the time comes when you have to decide for yourself if you believe it enough to live the principles of the gospel or not. For me it happened in Jr High. It was at that point that some of my friends were starting to go their own way, and I knew it was the wrong way. If I wanted to have the gospel in my life, I needed a new group of friends. It meant starting over. It was not an easy choice to walk away from my friends, but I pulled out of the old group and began looking again for people with my standards to be with. It was the best decision I ever made, as the Gospel of Jesus Christ has brought me so much joy on so many levels that I don't know what I would do without it! Because of the gospel teachings that I taught diligently to our children, none of them have fallen into the traps Satan uses to cause us misery. They are all doing very well. Because I am Mormon I have a family that is sealed for time and all Eternity. Because...I know I am a spirit Daughter of God and I know why I am here on Earth and what I need to do to be happy in this life and the next, when we die. And I AM HAPPY! There isn't a single great thing about my life that hasn't been made better because of this TRUE church I belong to. I know it is true, with ALL OF MY HEART AND SOUL! And I would feel selfish not to share that which brings to me and mine, such JOY! I would give up all that I have before I would give up this church and my testimony of it! The Gospel IS my life, and my life is GREAT!

How I live my faith

I don't just live my religion on Sundays. The only way to attain the happiness I have in my life is by living the teachings of the gospel every day. I don't think a day ever goes by that the gospel doesn't influence for good what I do. I have served in the church in many capacities. I have helped to plan youth activities and gone to girls camp as their leader. I have taught the teenager Sunday School class, and totally loved it! I have served as the chorister for the very young children at church. Currently I serve as the Compassionate Service leader of our congregation and I also teach the Family History class. I work in one of the LDS Family History Libraries and help others to find their families too. I work in temple every week and have the very happy task of tending children who will be sealed to their parents and families for time and all Eternity. I get to take them up when the time is right and have often seen not only the parents, but the children also cry tears of joy to know that they are now a "forever family" never to be eternally separated by death. I help to take care of my aging parents, assisting with meals, cleaning and gardening. I watch for the opportunity to serve those around me who are in need, physically, spiritually and emotionally, and do the best I can to "lift up the hands which hang down and strengthen the feeble knees". In short, I try to do what I think Jesus would do if He was in my shoes. Of course, I fall very short of the standard He set, but I feel the blessings that He gives in spite of my many inadequacies. I know I shall never be able to pay back my Lord, Savior and King, even Jesus Christ, for all of the huge blessings I receive, but I am determined to try!

What are some of the ways that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps those around the world?

Marilyn
The church helps in so many places! And I love that they do. I like to go to a nearby church that works every Wed. making and assembling humanitarian kits. We have put together personal hygiene kits, birthing kits, school kits, newborn kits, and others to help out in 3rd world countries and after disasters. My neighbor is a Dr and he frequently goes to 3rd world countries to teach Drs in hospitals neo-natal ressusitation so newborns don't die that could easily be saved with the right training. The church puts in wells so that people in Africa don't have to go so far to get water. And my daughter spent 4 months in Equador as a volunteer in orphanages. She was able to teach a 27 year old handicapped man to walk, and do much meaningful work to change lives there. The church provided milk to that orphanage. I LOVE the churches humanitarian aid program! It makes me so happy to be able to help make a difference where it is very needed. Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Marilyn
Being a member of this church is AWESOME! I LOVE it! The people I go to church with are so loving and friendly and helpful! The group of people that attends church with me on Sundays is called a ward, and our ward family takes good care of each other. When we move in, people we don't know will show up to help us. When someone has had a baby or had surgery or when other needs occur, meals are brought to our homes and sometimes if there is a need, free babysitting is rendered to help out.Boy Scouts mow the widows lawns for free and keep their walks clear of snow in the winter. There is no gossip, and everyone looks out for one another's needs and helps to protect and teach children. Where ever you travel in the world, you can go to another Mormon congregation who believes the same things you do, and be welcomed when you arrive, even though you are a stranger. You feel instant friendships with those present, because we try to live Jesus words, "Love one another as I have loved you". It is nice to know that so many people care about you and feel their love as you do in our church! Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Marilyn
Elder Dallin Oaks, an apostle in our church says that faith comes to us when we are obedient. The greater obedience we have to God's commandments, the greater our faith will be. I know that this is true. I have made more and more effort as the years go along to be 100% obedient, and I have seen my faith, hope and charity grow as a result of that obedience. And the reward I have received because of my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, have made "my cup runneth over". I feel profoundly grateful to the Lord for his tender mercies and out pouring of blessings. I am far from perfect, but I am trying with all of my heart to try to do the things that would please my Heavenly Father, and it has been SO worth it! Faith precedes the miracle, and I have seen many more than my share of miracles, for which I will praise my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ forever! Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Marilyn
We believe that we lived as Spirit Children of our loving Father in Heaven before we came to Earth. We wanted to become more like our Heavenly Father. In order to do that we needed to come to Earth and prove ourselves by being obedient to His commandments. We also needed to recieve physical bodies and learn and grow by gaining experience that would help us become like Heavenly Father. We come into families and when sealed in the Holy Temples of God, our families can become "Forever Families", meaning that after this life is done, our family will still be a family in the next life. Life is a test, a time to make ourselves better. God doesn't expect perfection of us, but he does expect us to be doing our very best to be obedient to His commandments. And He knows what our real intentions are To try to be obedient or not. He loves us more than we can comprehend, even when we make mistakes he wants to help us to come back to Him so that we can recieve the fullness of joy that can only be ours if we follow His plan for us. Now and in the Eternities, our lives can be so much better by following that plan! Show more Show less
