Hi I'm HCherie

I'm a student. I'm real. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the ghetto of Southern California, in a family of five children. My raising was not one of great financial success or of noteworthy community recognition. Our humble circumstances helped me develop a nonjudgmental outlook on life and on others. We are all different for a reason, and we need one another. I find great enjoyment in all aspects of the performing arts, especially singing, dancing, acting, and lighting design. Not surprisingly, I also love the quiet evenings at home just spending time with loved ones, reading, or watching a good movie. I am a recent transfer student to a 4-year university where I am labouring toward a BS in criminal sociology with a split minor in CIT and Spanish. I deem it a sacred honor to be given the opportunity to further my education.

Why I am a Mormon

One word: truth. Truth is reason. It is eternal. It is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come. My life is a quest for truth -- those things which are not tainted by opinion or the cunning craftiness of men. My life is a quest for the things of God, and is governed by those things which I find to be right, and good, and true. Put in the simplest form, I am a Mormon because the Book of Mormon is true. I have always known that Jesus Christ is my Saviour, but it wasn't until I made a consistent and meaningful study of the Book of Mormon that this truth came to life for me. I knew that He had died for me, but why was that important? Why did He need to be crucified, of all things? How do I access the power of the Atonement of the Son of God? I am a Mormon because I now know where to find the answers to these questions. All children of God can learn sacred truths as they turn to their Heavenly Father in earnest prayer, and as they read from His holy word. The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ answers the questions of my soul. It teaches the doctrines of Christ perfectly, so as not to be misunderstood by any one reader. As I read, my faith in Christ is increased, by understanding is deepened, and my commitment to life the commandments of God is magnified. Why am I a Mormon? Because I am a Christian.

How I live my faith

Heavenly Father has richly blessed each of us, individually, with talents and spiritual gifts. One of the gifts with which He has blessed me is the gift of music. I have served as the music chorister in a local congregation for several years, and also give volunteer service as a soloist, choir member, and the occasional backup pianist. The more I try to develop my talents, the more fulfilling my service becomes. I have also been responsible for coordinating dances and gatherings appropriate for the young single adults in my area and teaching doctrinal lessons to the women of the Church. I perform often in community theatre productions, looking for opportunities to share my testimony of the Saviour with my friends and acquaintances.

What is the Law of Chastity?

We are all spirit children of a loving Father in Heaven. Both our spirits and our bodies are created in His great image: the image of God. The bodies he has given us are sacred and precious. He gives us commandments to protect and preserve our physical and spiritual well-being. Our God is specific in commanding us to be pure and virtuous in our thoughts and actions. Moral discipline is a great indicator of one's commitment to live the gospel. The Lord requires that we abstain from all forms of sexual intimacy until we are legally and lawfully wedded, and when married, these intimacies are only to be experienced with one's spouse. We are always to avoid any form of entertainment or propoganda which flaunts the body, leads to sexual fantasies, or at all hinders our connection with the Holy Ghost. The Law of Chastity is a law of safety, giving honor to the majestic procreative power our Father in Heaven has granted us. It is the manifestation of our love and respect for God and all of His creations. Show more Show less
