Hi I'm Jayne Downie

I grew up in Southern California. I moved to Washington St. as an adult. I became a librarian to the homebound. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a wife, a mother, a grandmother and family is one of the most important things in life for me. I have always liked to read and enjoy sharing that interest with my grandchildren. Seeing new places, enjoying the beautiful world God has created for us, viewing artwork and other antiquities that various cultures throughout time have created, is of great interest to me. In the springtime I love to plant flowers, vegetables and other plants and watch the miracle of growth. It delights me to take a walk on a sunny day and notice all the plants and animals in the neighborhood. I have a soft spot for animals, especially cats, but all are wonderful creations of a loving Father in Heaven. I like getting to know people one on one. I don't take friends lightly, some of mine are from my youth. I feel good when I give service to others. I hope to be remembered as a good and worthwhile person.

Why I am a Mormon

I chose to be baptized at 13 because the Church of Jesus Christ and its teachings answered all my questions of "where did I come from", "why am I here" and "where am I going". Whatever question that has come up in my mind about Heavenly Father and Jesus has always been answered very clearly through the scriptures, especially The Book of Mormon and modern day prophets. The concept of a "Forever Family" is one of the most important parts of the LDS doctrine to me. I want to be with my family forever. I want to link past generations together in our sacred temples so they may have the choice to become one family in Christ with me. I believe, last of all, that our Savior, Jesus Christ is real and a glorified being and it makes logical sense to me and spiritual sense that he and our Father in Heaven are separate and individual personages and the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit that is there for me when needed.

How I live my faith

I volunteer in the Cub Scout program in our church even though I am a grandmother and have no boys in the program. I also volunteer in the Family History Center to help others find their ancestors and to work on discovering my own. As a cancer survivor, I help in a support group for women and participate in other activities of a local cancer help organization. I love to tutor first graders at a nearby elementary school in reading. I watch over a few women in our women's organization at church and visit, phone or mail them notes of encouragement to make sure they are OK and not in need of help of any kind. I give service when needed in our congregation in various ways. I often help serve dinner with our LDS church at a weekly meal put on by many churches and organizations in our area. I'm involved with a book club and frequently facilitate the meeting. I try to be a good Christian and love my neighbor by helping out where I can and in many ways. I love my husband and family first and strive to keep our connection strong by keeping in contact with all of them, even if it's only emailing or texting to grandkids in their technology language. It's important to mark everyone's milestones and holidays in our family, usually by getting together to celebratel I try very hard to emulate my Savior. That is my goal!
