Hi I'm Curtis K

I'm a proud husband and father. I'm an athletic trainer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married since 2006 and have a two year old son. I will graduate with a Masters degree soon in athletic training. I enjoy all sports, but mainly football, basketball, and college/high school wrestling. I have traveled to Europe several times, as well as New Zealand and Jerusalem. I love learning about other cultures and religions because it helps me understand others. What I enjoy most is spending time with my family playing board games.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I was born and raised a member of the LDS church, I continue to follow its teachings as best I can because I found out for myself that it is true. When I was a senior in high school, I was attending early morning scripture study, called seminary, before school. My teaching gave every one in class a challenge to read The Book Of Mormon for 15 minutes a day and then pray and ask Heavenly Father if the book was the word of God. While reading Ether chapter 12, I decided it was time to find out for myself if The Book of Mormon was true, and if the LDS faith was His true church. After kneeling in prayer, I prayed out loud and sincerely asked if The Book of Mormon was true, if Joseph Smith was a prophet, and if I was a member of His true church. I promised in that prayer that if He told me it was all true, I would spend the rest of my life trying to follow it, and if it wasn't true, I would spend the rest of my life avoiding it. During that prayer I felt a great calming peace come over me, and everything seemed so clear and sure. I know that the Holy Ghost bore witness to me that it is true. As I go to church every Sunday and learn more, I continue to receive these feelings reassuring me that this is Christ's true church. I know that these feelings are from Heavenly Father as talked about in Galatians 5:22. I don't have all of the answers about the church, but I do know that Jesus Christ is the head, and that I find the most happiness in this life by doing my best to live up to its teachings.

How I live my faith

My favorite way to serve in the church is called home teaching. I have other families who are Mormon that I visit at least once a month, and after talking with them to see how they are doing and getting to know them, I share a spiritual message. While the families are assigned to me, I feel that I become close friends with them. I try to make sure that they know I will be there for them if they need help with anything, at any time. Doing this faithfully helps me feel like the church I go to every Sunday is more of family than simply a meeting place of nice people.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Curtis K
The Word of Wisdom is a revelation from Heavenly Father. It was revealed to Joseph Smith what types of foods are good for us i.e. grains, fruits, meat sparingly, and what types of things are bad for us i.e. alcohol, tobacco, coffee, tea. The revelation is recording in the Doctrine and Covenants section 89. Often I am asked why certain things should be avoided, like wine and other alcohol. While scientist and nutrition experts very on what they say is good for the human body, I know that this is Heavenly Fathers standard for his children. Even though I don't have all the scientific proof to back up why I should follow it, I know that I feel better following it. There are special promises given to those who follow the Word of Wisdom, and I have felt these blessings as I follow it. Show more Show less
