Hi I'm Rick West

I am an educational researcher, designer, technologist, and evaluator.

About Me

I am an educational researcher, designer, technologist, and evaluator, and I teach in the Instructional Psychology and Technology department at Brigham Young University. Professionally, I am interested in how we can teach group creativity skills to our students, as well as how we can make online learning more collaborative and successful. I am also a former sports reporter and editor and part-time LDS seminary teacher. Personally, my life revolves around my wife and children, and I love coaching, teaching, and playing with my kids. My hobbies include long distance running, audiobooks, BYU sports, acapella music, and musical theater.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but came to know for myself that it was true through powerful spiritual impressions throughout my life. Especially on my mission to Guayaquil, Ecuador, I came to know with a surety that God was aware of me, and that He alone was who I needed to depend on entirely for my support and salvation. I dedicated my life to Him, and have felt that when I have increased my efforts to serve Him, He has in turn increased the blessings within my life.

How I live my faith

I try to spend time each day studying the scriptures and words of the modern prophets, and communicating with my Heavenly Father in prayer. The Sabbath is a special day for me and my family, and I try to focus on my Savior and my family on that day. As a researcher, I believe that science and religion can co-exist, and even inform each other, and I try to meld the two together in my search for understanding in my field of study.
