Hi I'm Nathan

I grew up in British Columbia, I'm a college student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. Most of my growing up years were spent in the Okanagan where I developed a love for the outdoors. I especially enjoy snowboarding, mountain biking, and hiking. I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology, emphasizing in Neuroscience. I am currently doing clinical research with the plan to go to medical school next year.

Why I am a Mormon

When I grew up my parents were already members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, as I got older I was able to develop my own knowledge of the the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through regular scripture study, prayer, and keeping the commandments I have come to know that Joseph Smith actually was a prophet, the Book of Mormon is true, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's church. Being a Mormon strengthens my testimony in Jesus Christ. In addition to reading of Him in the Bible I can read about Him in the Book of Mormon and from prophets who live today. When I learn and read about Jesus Christ I feel peace and love, and have a desire to do what is right. I know that He is the Son of God, and my Savior. I am also grateful to know that his church has been restored to the earth, and that he speaks to a living prophet today. Another great blessing of having the restored gospel on the earth today is that I have answers to many of the deep questions we often ask ourselves. Such deep question as what is the purpose to life and how can I be happy? what happens after this life? and who is God and what is my relationship with him? are answered in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. To have the answers to these questions gives me direction and hope even during the difficult times of life. I am also grateful to know that the relationships that I establish here on earth with my family and friends can continue after this life.

How I live my faith

I go to church every Sunday to partake of the sacrament and to learn and be edified with other members of the church, who share a desire to follow Jesus Christ. I also try to participate in the church, not just going to listen. Our church is a church where every member has a responsibility, where we all learn from each other, and are able to serve each other. I also believe that my faith involves all the things that I do outside of church, from Monday to Saturday. I try to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in everything I do. Although I have many things to improve, I feel blessed when I am able to serve someone, or stand up for truth. These are the moments when I feel closest to Christ. When Christ was on the earth he was constantly seeking to do things for others. I also study the scriptures and pray to my Heavenly Father on a daily basis.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

One of the most incredible things that we learn from the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Joseph Smith, is that God answers prayers in a very real and personal way. Although I have never seen God, or an angel, I have felt his love through the power of the Holy Ghost, and I know that this is something that anyone can experience. To know if Mormonism is true, I would invite you to continue reading from this website, talk to your Mormon friends, meet with the missionaries, and read the Book of Mormon. As you study, pray to Heavenly Father to know if what you are reading and learning is true and from him. If you do this with a sincere desire to know the truth, with real intentions to follow him, and with faith, I promise that you will receive an answer to your prayers. Whenever you read the Book of Mormon or study about the church or anything, pay attention to your feelings. Do you feel peace, joy, and love? These are the feelings that I typically feel when the Holy Ghost bears witness to me. In addition, we can know of the good of something by the effect that it has on our life. By following the teachings of Jesus Christ, reading the Book of Mormon, and following the living prophet and apostles, I have seen that my life has been blessed with an increase of purpose, happiness, and love for those around me. These blessings come from God. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon has been a great blessing in my life in helping me come to know Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is a compilation of the records and teachings of prophets who lived on the ancient American continent. These prophets received revelations of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, which they used to teach their people. The culminating event of the Book of Mormon was when Jesus Christ came to visit the people of the American continent following his resurrection. The people who lived during the time of the prophets who wrote the Book of Mormon eventually became very wicked and rejected God. At this time a prophet named Mormon, took all the records of their prophets and compiled all the most important revelations and teachings into one record. His son Moroni, who was the last prophet of this ancient civilization, was commanded to burry the plates in the ground to protect them. These plates lay in the ground for over a thousand years, until in the early 1800s a young man named Joseph Smith was directed by God to uncover them. He then translated the plates by the gift and power of God, and published it as the Book of Mormon. We can all know if the Book of Mormon is truly the word of God by reading from it, pondering the teachings and revelations contained in it, and asking God if it is true. God will reveal the truth of it unto us through the power of the Holy Ghost. In my life, this is often felt as a calm and peaceful feeling of love and joy. Show more Show less

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Normally in the church, when we speak of the prophet, we are referring to the president of the church, who today is President Thomas S. Monson. President Monson has been called of God to lead and direct the church on the earth, just like Moses anciently, and Joseph Smith, who was the first prophet called in these modern days. He receives revelation on behalf of the church, and teaches the gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire world. He is a prophet, seer, and revelator. He also holds the keys of the priesthood, meaning that he has the authority and responsibility to act in God's name. President Monson also has two counsellors, who together form the First Presidency of the Church. In addition to these three men, twelve men form the quorum of the twelve apostles, just like the apostles when Jesus was on the earth. All fifteen of these men are prophets, seers, and revelators. Although God works through these men to lead his church and to reveal his gospel, every person on earth has the responsibility to seek personal revelation. We don't do things in the church blindly, just because our leaders tell us to do it. We are expected to reason in our minds and to pray in order to gain a testimony by the power of the Holy Ghost whether these things are true. I have a testimony that these men have been called by God through revelation, and the work that they are doing is Gods work, revealed to them like it was in the Bible and Book of Mormon.
