Hi I'm Joe

I'm a husband. I'm a dad. I'm a healthcare innovator. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I'm in my early 30's and work in healthcare innovating new technologies & programs to help people live longer with better quality of life. I grew up in the Chicago area and moved to Dallas in 2012, where I met my wife. We were married last year and have just welcomed our first child into the world. My wife and I also enjoy planning dates that are themed with a letter of the alphabet to generate creativity & advance our relationship. We enjoy going to the temple and researching our family history along with a good movie every now and again. As an active member of my community, I work with the Dallas food bank, read to local kindergartners, and have worked with beach clean up efforts in San Diego.

Why I am a Mormon

When I learned of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I was working in a paid ministry for another Christian organization. While I was taught one aspect, in my heart, I felt there was more that intuitively felt was lacking. This weighed on my heart for some time. It was a jarring transition. I wasn't sure my friends or family would understand, but I decided to put my faith in the Lord to guide me. When I read the Book of Mormon and met with the missionaries, I was excited! I was glad to find out that revelation still happens today. This was what I had been missing my whole life. What I was being taught was in perfect harmony with what I had always felt deep in my soul. I was baptized after two weeks of meeting with the missionaries. As I grew in Christ's gospel I began to find myself more and more fulfilled. Each time I read the scriptures, I was filled with a sense of comfort and familiarity almost as if I had heard these truths some where prior. The gospel and this Church is everything to me. It was a difficult transition, a humbling experience and brought with it some sorrows, but my life is so much more enhanced by my activity in the Church. People often ask me if I've replaced one faith with another. To that I would say, "No, my faith has always been and always will be in Jesus Christ. My understanding just needed to grow."

How I live my faith

Well, after joining the church I served a mission the Philippines. It was everything to me. Following my return home I served in many capacities. Right now, I serve teaching high school students religious education. I get up every morning at five throughout the week to work with the youth of the church.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

The Bible and Book of Mormon are used as a companionship. The Book of Mormon is not used in place of the Bible. One Testifies of the other. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Everything the missionaries teach is centered around Christ. Since each set of missionaries teaches by the Spirit, they'll be inspired how to teach you best. The best advice I can give, as someone who has been taught by the missionaries, is to be open and honest with them with regard to your desire to understand and learn. Also, be open and honest with your concerns. Ask genuine & sincere questions. Missionaries are there to help answer questions, resolve concerns, and help people find a path to a better relationship with Jesus Christ. I've been a member for 11 years now, and I still keep in touch with the missionaries who taught me. Show more Show less
