Hi I'm Derek

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 28-year old accountant. I have been married for 6 years with a darling daughter who reminds me daily to appreciate the little things. We recently moved to the UK to fulfill a dream of ours; my wife and I love to travel. Before moving here, we'd taken trips to Europe the three years before our daughter was born. We now look forward to exploring new lands and places. I am the youngest of 8 children - 7 of which are boys, so I learned to love all sports and the outdoors by trailing around my 6 older brothers. I love hiking and camping and being in the outdoors. I also have a passion for doing jigsaw puzzles, particularly of places in the world I have visited.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon makes me happy. Being a Mormon has taught me to be thankful, to serve, to help. It has brought me peace in my life. We all make choices every day that take us through life, and having a map to help me choose my path can mean the difference between agony and joy. I choose to be a Mormon because living by our standards has kept me away from so many of the world's problems. It also keeps me close to what matters most - my wife and daughter.

How I live my faith

I live my faith with simple acts. I believe in being kind, in smiling, and in friendship. I don't claim to be perfect, but doing the little things can have a monumental impact for others. I try to see others as people like myself who are trying to make it through life without getting hurt and hoping to have some fun along the way. My happiest moments are when I've taken care of a chore for my wife without her asking and seeing her gratitude in her smile. I've learned that when we both serve each other we can accomplish anything together because we become better than our individual selves.

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

A prophet is chosen the same way today as they were in the Bible - by God. God loves us, his children, and calls prophets to teach us his will. He's done this in the past and continues to do so today. Show more Show less
