Hi I'm Michael

I'm a Medical Student. I'm a Chinese-American. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a medical student and living in New York City. I grew up in Hawaii and moved to the mainland to attend college and medical school. I enjoy playing tennis, traveling, watching TV, trying new things, but most importantly serving others.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that Christ's gospel and church have been restored through Joseph Smith. I know this through prayer, knowing that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and by seeing the results of living Christ's teachings in my life--everything good in my life is a result of me living Christ's teachings.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday, I pray everyday, and I read my scriptures, but I live my faith through serving others and applying Christ's teachings into my life everyday.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

I don't drink coffee, tea, or alcohol because it is a commandment of God. I know that it is a commandment of God because it was revealed to us through one of His prophets, Joseph Smith. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet because I have asked God through prayer and I received a witness that he was indeed called of God. The Mormon Church's law of health is known as the Word of Wisdom. Simply it states that coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs are harmful to the body. Additionally, it teaches that a well balanced diet is good for the body. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

A Mormon lifestyle is quite similar to the lifestyle of people who aren't Mormon-- We are very normal. We date, we work, we celebrate holidays, we dance, and we go through the normal struggles of life. The difference is that we make choices based on the teachings of Christ, which is why I choose not to drink alcohol, watch a certain movie, or attend a specific event. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Temples are the House of the Lord. With that said, only Mormons are allowed in temples because in order to enter the temple one must be worthy. Before any Mormon is able to enter the temple he or she must be interviewed by their church leader and be recommended as worthy to enter the House of the Lord. After this interview the individual is given a card, which is good for 2 years, showing his or her worthiness to enter the house of the Lord. With that said, not all Mormons are allowed into temples because they must be worthy. Nothing secret goes on in the temples. Within temples, individuals make promises with God on their behalf and on the behalf of those who have passed on. Additionally, within temples, families are bound together for time and all eternity through a sacred ceremony, which is very similar to the wedding ceremonies we are used to. Show more Show less
