Hi I'm Valerie

I am a Mormon mom from New Mexico.

About Me

I grew up in New Mexico and have lived here my whole life. I love it here. In June 2008 I married the most wonderful man. Originally we decided that we would wait until we were both done with school before we had any children. About two years later I decided that I didn't want to wait any longer to have a baby. I had three semesters left in my Chemical Engineering degree when I got pregnant. When morning sickness hit I decided that I was done with school. I knew that I wasn't going to go to school once I had the baby anyway. I felt completely crazy for quitting school when I was so close to being done and for stopping because I wanted to be a mom instead. I knew though that we were making the right decision. Our son was born just as my husband started his last semester for his Bachelor's degree. Now he is working on his Masters degree. Our lifestyle is very different than other people our age because we're married and have a baby. We're also different from other couples with children because my husband is in school. I know though that we are doing what God wants us to do and he will bless us for it.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a Mormon my whole life. My parents raised me and my brothers in the Church and taught us the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When I went to college I was 3 hours away from my parents and almost everyone I knew. My mom made me promise that I would go to church and activities. The first few weeks I went because I knew I didn't want to let her down. Eventually I started going to church because I wanted to. I wanted to feel the Spirit. I wanted to come closer to my Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ. Since then my testimony has really grown and I feel that I know for myself that this Church is the one and only true true Church of God.

How I live my faith

Every day I read to my son. I read him board books and other fun stories we have around the house. Most importantly though I read to him out of the Book of Mormon. I need to do my personal scripture study and have found that reading aloud to my son helps me to understand it better, especially when I try to explain to him what I am reading. I want him to love the scriptures and the best way I know how to do that is by example. At church I work with the Young Women, girls age 12 - 18. One Sunday a month I teach them a lesson. Most recently I taught a lesson on repentance. To prepare my lesson I read scriptures about repentance the week before. I studied and tried to learn as much as I could so I could teach that important principle to the girls. I also help prepare activities for the girls to do one night a week. This week we are going to teach them how to bake bread. The activities are to teach the girls life skills and to help them come closer to Christ.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

YES!!! We believe that husband and wife can be sealed for time and all eternity if they are married in the temple. When they are sealed, they are sealed to their families as well. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes. We believe in Jesus Christ and that he is our Savior. He atoned for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane. He died on the cross and was resurrected three days later. Show more Show less
