Hi I'm Rachel

I am an art teacher, a new mom, and Texan. I'm a mormon.

About Me

Right now I'm enjoying time at home with my new son who has the biggest eyeballs I've ever seen. I'm an art teacher to out of control junior high kids, but I love them. My husband attends BYU, takes the MCAT this year, and will soon be applying for medical school (fingers crossed!). I love making stuff whether it's paintings, crafty things, sewn things, or any do it yourself projects. I love to workout and do anything athletic. Challenging myself to achieve goals like running a marathon helps keep me motivated. And it's so fun!

Why I am a Mormon

Throughout high school, my friends challenged my beliefs as a Mormon and regularly had questions for me to answer. A question I heard frequently was "how are you so happy all the time?" or "why are you so happy, what do you do?" At the time I didn't realize why I was constantly in a state of happiness. However I now fully realize that it is because of the principles and things I have learned and know from being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon because it makes me happy and I know it's true. When my husband and I first started dating, he questioned me often in challenge of my beliefs, believing himself that I did what I did because of my parents. One day I told him that I could not answer all of questions nor did I know the scriptures so well to prove to him what I believed, simply that I did what I did because it felt right and I knew it was true. The things I know cannot be proven with fact or script, I know that God lives and that this is His church because I feel it. Each member of the church and anyone wondering must ask God and receive an answer for themselves that these things are true.

How I live my faith

I am part of the women's organization: Relief Society. We uplift each other, support each other, and teach other. These women are amazing and work so hard to do what is right for their families. Each month I am responsible to visit two of these women and two other women are assigned to visit me. In these visits we chat and laugh. They always have something inspiring to share that strengthens me and gives me motivation to live my life better.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

No one can tell you that these things are true except God. Even though I grew up a member of this church, I still had to discover for myself that it was true. The key in knowing if this is the true church is to read the Book of Mormon and pray and ask God if it is true. I know that He answers. God listens to our prayers. The Holy Ghost can touch your mind and your heart and tell you these things are true. Ask sincerely and He will answer. Show more Show less
