Hi I'm Luthando
I grew up in South Africa in the Eastern Cape and I am a Mormon.
I am a young single adult in South Africa in my early 20's. I have served a full-time mission in the South Africa Johannesburg mission. I am currently a first year varsity student studying to be a High School Teacher.
Why I am a Mormon
I was exposed to the church during my early childhood years, when missionaries from the church of Jesus christ of Latterday Saints managed to find my Parents and whom they taught and baptized. I had the privilege of growing up in the church being baptized myself at the age of 8. My parents went through a divorce when I was 6/7 years of age. This brought a lot of heartache and sadness and I soon found myself staying with my father and not with my mother. As I grew older the gospel perspective gave me the strength to deal with what had happened. I came to accept the decision which my parents had taken. Infact without even me realizing it due to the principles I was being taught at church I automatically forgave my parents, had no resentment but instead came to understand what they had gone through. There were many instances in my life whilst maturing in the church when I felt the fire of testimony burn within my heart and bring feelings of peace, happiness and joy. My testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ as found in this church grew bit by bit. I felt the confirmation of that testimony even more as I prepared to go on a mission and even more so when I was serving a mission in the South Africa Johannesburg mission. Many lives were touched as we did the Lords work and many lives were changed as well. I know this Church is the Lords church once again established on the earth. I know that Jesus Christ is the head of this church and He leads it by revelation given through his servants on the earth. I know that the gospel can help us place into perspective the circumstances we find ourselves in and help us deal with our problems.
How I live my faith
I currently reside in Port Elizabeth found in the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. I attend the Port Elizabeth ward, a unit of the church found here. I am assigned as a home-teacher, which is to visit the homes of certain members every month bringing a spiritual message. I strive to do my home-teaching every month. Typically everyday I strive to wake up, offer a word of prayer, study my scriptures for a couple of minutes and then strive to live by and practice the principles of the gospel. Since I am a first year student studying at University and staying far away from my parents the temptation to do evil is constantly there. The Gospel and its teachings help me to have strength to resist these temptations and to stand as an example to my friends.
