Hi I'm Mary Katherine

I'm a redhead from Texas. I love to learn, laugh & see others smile. And I AM a Mormon.

About Me

I am a happy, curious, yet content red-headed Texan! My two older sisters and I were raised by our parents in Iowa, California, Connecticut - but mostly Texas! I married my high school sweetheart over 18 years ago. He is my true love and makes me smile and laugh all the time. We have 3 fun and wonderful children - two in high school and one in junior high. They make every day entertaining and because of them I keep trying to be a better person all the time. During high school I spent time studying in Germany and in college I studied in Jerusalem and Utah. My Bachelor's degree is in American Studies and ten years later I earned a Master's degree in Organizational Management. I've taught piano lessons, worked for an airline and a university. I then became an Early Childhood Special Education teacher which was better than any other job I'd ever had! I absolutely love those precious souls! Now I'm busily staying at home and enjoying every moment I can with our children! We made sacrifices so I could stay home but I am so grateful we were able to make it happen. It's the most fun I've had so far!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe in my Savior Jesus Christ & in a Heavenly Father who loves me unconditionally. It is through the sacrifice of Jesus that I am forgiven of my sins and will return to live with my Father in heaven someday. Since I was very young I loved the words of the Bible & was blessed with a deep faith in its words. The more I study & learn the more grateful I am for the scriptures. I believe that God has not grown quiet & left us alone. Just like in Bible times, he guides & directs us today through personal revelation and through a prophet called by God. I believe that I can pray to my Father in Heaven whenever I need him & he will answer my prayers. Because I believe in the ability to ask questions & receive answers, I read the Book of Mormon (which was revealed to a young man through personal revelation) & I prayed about it myself to know if it was of God. My answer has come & been witnessed to me time & time again. It is true & it is good & it does not replace the Bible - but only strengthens it. The Book of Mormon is another account of a civilization who was waiting for the Savior to come - just like the people in Jerusalem. It is their record of their faith & the things going on in their area during the same time. It tells of their hopes and sorrows, their expectations & fulfillment of prophecy. All these things strengthen me & my family as we try each day to live as God sees us - which perhaps is not quite the same way we view ourselves. The gospel of Jesus Christ makes us stronger as a family & teaches us to be kind & good towards others. It teaches us to work hard & sacrifice when needed. We grow stronger as we serve & care for others instead of focusing on ourselves. It gives us an eternal purpose to strive for rather than just moving along day to day. That's not to say there aren't hard times or things are always sunshine and daisies - but when those hard times come along we know our purpose & where we're headed.

How I live my faith

Within my local congregation I serve in the woman's organization for our church. We voluntarily accept assignments in different areas as needed. Currently I help organize the teachers for our group each Sunday and provide instruction and training. Every few months I teach a lesson myself and end up learning so much in preparation! My favorite thing I do is visit the other women in our congregation and provide service to them. Some are ill or unable to come to church, others just need a friend or an encouraging word. It brings me such happiness and peace to visit with these incredible women and learn about their lives, hopes and dreams. My children serve as youth leaders and my husband serves as well as part of the leadership of our ward or congregation. As a family we try to set aside time for a family activity each Monday night with a lesson on a topic that we feel might be needed or important to our family at that time. We also work to read scriptures and have family prayer together each day.
