Hi I'm Derek

I am a father of four. I teach Spanish. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a happily married father of four. I teach Spanish at the University level.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who are members of the Church and I was baptized when I was eight years old. For as long as I can remember I have known that Jesus Christ is my Savior. While the beginning stages of that surety is thanks in large part to the faith of my parents, I know for myself that He is my Redeemer. I remember when I was a Junior in high school taking a trip to Carthage, IL and visiting the place where the Prophet Joseph Smith was martyred. My testimony in the divine calling of Joseph Smith as the Lord's chosen prophet was solidified within the walls of the Carthage Jail. My freshman year of college I decided to 'officially' find out if the Book of Mormon was true, something I already strongly believed due to the aforementioned experience in knowing that Joseph Smith was a prophet. After again reading through the Book of Mormon, I put Moroni's promise to the test and asked if it was true. I did not receive any grand visions or visitations, but the feelings of the Holy Ghost were undeniable and, yet again, my testimony was strengthened and affirmed.

How I live my faith

I am currently a counselor in the local leadership of our church. I oversee the Sunday School and work with the Music Chair on all things music related, though my musical talents are limited at best. I work a lot with Sacrament Meeting preparation and conduct these meetings every third month.
