Hi I'm Peter

I love spending time outside, especially with my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have always loved being outside. I was home-schooled until 10th grade, so if I got my work done early, I would generally spend a lot of time outside playing. As I grew older, I got a bike and would often go mountain biking. Now, I really like cooking over an open fire in the back yard in the summer time. I also like to go hiking as often as I can. I also really enjoy reading. I like reading all kinds of books from self-help to fiction to scripture. Some of my favorite books are The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Chronicles of Narnia. I particularly enjoy reading the Book of Mormon. It strengthens me and leads me closer to my Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ every time I read - even if it is only a few verses.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I didn't always know why I did the things that I did in the Church. It was just a part of life for me. I didn't realize until later how there was a foundation being laid for later strong faith in Jesus Christ. I had the opportunity to go on a mission to share my knowledge of Jesus Christ. I just always expected that I would go, but I didn't always know why. As I was preparing to go on my mission, I was given the opportunity to share my testimony with those who had requested a Book of Mormon to be sent to them. This scared me quite a lot because I didn't know what I should say. As I was involved in this process, I also came to realize that I was just saying what I had been taught my whole life. I wasn't necessarily sharing what I knew. I then really started to pray to my Heavenly Father to know if what I was sharing was true. I knew that I was about to spend 2 years sharing this and I had to know it for myself and not just be spouting what I had heard my whole life. As I prayed more earnestly, it didn't seem like an answer was coming. I still felt the same fear that I was just spouting what I had been taught. I kept praying to know the truth though. In order for me to get my answer from Heavenly Father, I had to show some faith. There came a time when I was talking to a man about the Book of Mormon who was really negative about it. Despite my lack of confidence in what I was saying, I felt the Spirit prompt me to tell him that I knew that it is true. I decided to follow it. Even though the man's attitude didn't change, I felt God's love sweep over me and testify of the truth of what I was saying. I now know for myself that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that the book testifies of Jesus Christ and will lead us to him if we study it. As we come closer to Jesus Christ, our lives can be full and rewarding. Without Him and His life and sacrifice, I would be lost.

How I live my faith

Currently, I serve in the Church as a Sunday School teacher. I don't teach every week, but I am on call to substitute when the other teachers can't make it. I enjoy teaching because it forces me to study more than I normally would. I also am partnered with another member of the Church to watch over a couple of families in my area. We visit them at least once a month to give a short lesson and make sure that they are doing alright. When needed, we give service and help out any way we can.
