Hi I'm Tim Turner

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

About Me

I'm a husband to beautiful wife and a dad to two great kids--a son currently serving a mission and a daughter in 8th grade. I'm a high school English teacher.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church in 1983. As a teenager, I had several LDS friends who introduced me to the Church through the Scouting program. I enjoyed the people and their focus on eternal families. I saw in them the things I wished I could see in my own family. I wanted to join the Church then but my parents wouldn't give permission until I was 18. When I left for college, I lost my connection to my LDS friends. In college, I began searching for the true gospel. I always believed in God and in His son Jesus Christ, even though I had no formal religious education in my home. I visited several of the church groups on campus. The kids and advisers were nice but something didn't feel right. I kept searching. Summer came and I was back home at my parents' house. A chance meeting had me run into some of my old LDS friends from high school. They invited me to a young adult dance at the Church that night. I went and had a great time. One friend there was a girl named Shannon. That summer vacation we began dating and she began answering my questions about the Church. I needed my family and friends to know that I was investigating the Church for me and not for my girlfriend. Summer ended and I returned to college. There I met with the missionaries and took the discussions. After several months, I made the decision to be baptized. I was baptized for one reason--eternal families. I knew I wanted to spend eternity with my wife and children. All other tenets of the gospel were connected to that desire. I knew my family could be together forever through Heavenly Father's plan. That plan includes the restoration of the fulness of the gospel through Joseph Smith, it includes the Book of Mormon, it includes the sacred ordinances. Each of those aspects of the gospel brought me closer to my goal of an eternal family. For me, it was that simple. And yes....the girl I met at the dance all those years ago has been my wife for the past 25 years and is my eternal companion.

How I live my faith

I am currently the 2nd Counselor in the Young Men's presidency. I work with the deacons (12-13 year old boys). In my 28 years in the Church I've had a variety of callings (Church responsibilities). I've been the elders quorum president working with the men, the ward mission leader working on sharing the gospel, the ward executive secretary helping the bishop stay organized, the adult gospel doctrine teacher, youth Sunday School teacher, ward missionary, stake Young Men's secretary, and counselor in the ward Young Men's presidency multiple times. We live our faith through service in our ward family. Each of these callings has taught me and helped shape me into the person I've become.
