Hi I'm Tom

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father to 3.5 children one is on the way, and a husband. I am a computer nerd by trade and by hobby. I like building my own computers, and I enjoy some gaming. I grew up in a very small town, and I enjoy the peace of open spaces.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because our Heavenly Father told me what was written in the Book of Mormon is true. That's the short answer. It's hard for me to write in a paragraph or two why I commit my life to living the teachings of Jesus Christ. There was a time in my life when I was without the gospel, and it was a very dark time for me. There were people there to help me out of the hole I dug for myself, and they showed me the happiness that comes through following the gospel and example that our Savior set for us. I didn't know how to be happy. I tried it my own way for a long time. Once I started relying on the Savior, He taught me how to be happy. Through His teachings and through the power of prayer I found hapiness and peace that I had never known before. I know this is Jesus Christ's church.

How I live my faith

On Mondays, my family gathers together and we have "Family Home Evening." This is where we typically have a lesson about the gospel of Jesus Christ followed by an activity and some dessert. Through the week, there are some meetings, but more often I get together with a group of people my age chop wood for someone or help someone move, etc. Sometime during the week I prepare a lesson that I teach on Sundays.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Tom
A testimony is just that. If someone had simply told me that what was written in the Book of Mormon was actually written by ancient inhabitants of the Americas, it would have helped, but it wouldn't have given me the knowlegde for myself. The only way I was able to get a knowledge that that was true was by asking God. So, I did. I have prayed and asked God that very question, and He communicated to me that it was true. He didn't communicate it to me because I was more important than anyone else. He did so because I am His child, He loves me, and I really wanted to know. Those are the only qualifications that I know of that someone needs to be able to communicate with God. Since I had that experience, Heavenly Father expects me to testify to others of what happened to me. I am a witness that God still speaks and that the Book of Mormon contains the words of His prophets. That is my testimony. Show more Show less
